Pavarotti Dead

I'm crying my eyes out and I don't even like opera. Just knowing how much he meant to my grandmother makes this a profound loss for me. Her one wish in life was to hear him live, so when the Three Tenors were on tour, I took her. She cried the entire time.

Angie, has your grandmother passed now herself? If so, just imagine Pavarotti singing to her in heaven...hugs to you.

Rest in Peace Mr. Pavarotti.

There will never be another like him, his voice was once in a lifetime.

Shows his versatility and willingness to appear with many other artists of different genre's of music. I'm going to keep them all in the background as I work today.

BTW, many more at the links.

Yes, my grandmother passed some years ago. And thinking of him singing to her up there at the big opera in the sky is what got the tears flowing.

Prayers for his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Pavarotti - you definitely left your mark on this world.

I'm so sad! How I adored Pavarotti!

His voice was soooo huge! He had to hold back to keep from overwhelming the other singers. He hit high notes without the least bit of strain...he gave his all every time. Carreras and Domingo are good, but strain to be a tenor. Luciano was a tenor.

I agree with the poster who said, once you heard Pavarotti, you were an instant fan.

Who can take his place...none. Will we ever have a tenor of his magnitude in my lifetime?

Thank you so much for the links. I really like the other singers also and to see and hear him performing with them was wonderful. And I loved the way he reached out to hug each one.

Listening to Pavarotti is mesmerizing. Tears came to my eyes and I got chills. I've always told myself to buy a cd of his but alas have never done it.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me some suggestions of the best to look for.

The Three Tenors is superb! Not trashing Domingo and Carreras, just Pavarotti was so amazing.

Get something recorded at least in the 90's or 2000's, his earlier recordings, though redone for cd's can't match the quality of the sound.

One cd came out in the last year or two with his greatest hits....brought tears to my eyes...Pavaratti is in white and the background is white and it's a two cd set. It's incredible...can't remember the name. I have Pavarotti cd's and the best are not from the 80's.

Sadly, I don't think so. There will never be another like him. His legacy will last for generations.

Denver afternoon show had an expert on opera at the 4:00 hour. I had to follow the BarnGod into town at 15 mph. He was driving the tractor in for repair. So, I got to hear about him. This expert is on the board of Denver Opera Patrons and is the color announcer for the Denver Broncos. I love it, football and opera.

He said one of his albums hit the mainstream record charts, I'll pop over to look for it, hang on:

The Essential Pavarotti it was #1 on British pop charts.

Thank you so much Show Me. This is very good information and will help me choose well. I'm going to look for the two cd set you described. That sounds like what I had in mind. Thanks again, montana

Can't believe he is gone :(
Rest in peace, and sing with the angels....

 I totally agree. I saw Pavarotti a few years back and it was the closest I've come to an out of body experience. I was absolutely blown away.

May he rest in peace. Heaven now has the voice of a special angel.

He not only had a once-in-a-generation voice but, from all I've read seemed to be a wonderful person as well.
