And I don't think he is going to have money to save him at his new location. I think his 'guardian angel' has had enough. And even his mom has finally cut him off I think.

Joran van der Sloot sentenced to 28 years in prison for Flores murder

Van der Sloot, 24, fidgeted nervously and sweated profusely during sentencing and was ordered to pay 200,000 soles ($74,074) to the Flores family. He shook his head afterwards, sighed and was escorted out of the courtroom by guards. He did not say if he would appeal the ruling.
He could conceivably spend less than a decade behind bars because Peru often releases prisoners for good behavior after serving a third of their terms.

After watching that NG documentary again - JVS is a "big boy" so, perhaps he'll be made to be a "water donkey" and fight to get in the water line each day and then carry the buckets. How is he gonna deal with that?

He'll have to pass mustard with the "delegates" as they run the prison - and, some how I don't think they are going to be too receptive to him. He may even end up becoming an outcast and have to scavenger the garbage piles for his food. Who knows.

One thing for certain - he's about to live in hell - plain and simple. Lurigancho is NOTHING like he's ever seen - even being in prison there already. Karma is a beotch Joran.

I hope that poor Beth can accept that perhaps Luringacho is the best that can happen. He will never tell where Natalie is, and most likely there is nothing left if she was in the ocean. I know that must be horrible, but having him extradited to the U.S. will only ensure he lives a somewhat happy life in a nice Federal prison here. Federal prisons are more like big pajama parties, according to all the people I have talked with that have spent time in those and State ones.

I'm still not certain if any harm would come to Joran in Luringancho, he would not be possessing the cash. Some one, probably the female fan, would arrange to have it delivered, and he would be safe as long as the flow was on time. However, it still sucks big time there, even if you pay to stay alive. No pampering, cable t.v. (which even I can't afford), simply tasks, free eduction and more, that would happen here in the U.S.

Whatever happens, Joran does have some extremely bad juju owed to him by the Fates.

From November 19th, 2008:

HOLLOWAY: Yes. And Greta, I was just wanting to say that, you know, like I said, it's been a long time, but it's never too late for justice. And I'd be good with a "Midnight Express" prison anywhere for Joran.

There was a "cell block" for foreigners annalia but that don't mean much. And it doesn't mean that's the cell block they will give him. This prison isn't run like anything you would normally think. The cells are usually always open and the prisoners just "roam" where ever. Dirt floors, no running water, no toilets in the cells.

It is NASTY NASTY NASTY - I remember when JVS was first arrested for this - we did some research on the Peruvian prisons. This one is listed as one of the worst in the world. That documentary that I keep referring to was very eye opening and I remember questioning how any country could treat people like this - but was quickly reminded that this is a different country and they can treat their criminals however they please.

This prison was built to house 3000 or so - the population is now over 10,000. There is nothing but shanty towns around it so the whole area is pretty much like a "third world" area.

Please please please send him there. I can also see a bounty being put on his head once he's there.

I read that Peruvian prisons are among the worst. I have also read Mexico prisons are horrendous as well.

The question is why did he plead guilty? He's been the primary suspect in the Holloway case for years and has led the authorities on a merry chase. At times confessing to various people, then recanting his story and even being arrested twice for questioning, he knew there was not enough evidence to charge him. He was playing a sick game with the police, the prosecution and worst of all the emotions of the family that lost their daughter. In this case, he clearly loved playing games with the authorities AND he had a chance to have the charge reduced to manslaughter. So again, why did he plead guilty?

Well, that is a good question. Either he knew he would be let loose in the streets there and the general public would take care of him, or he wants to stop killing. I am going with the general public would take care of him before he got past the gate.

I think it's fantasy that he'll be in some kind of danger in prison, even if he ends up in one of their worst ones (and I hope it's the worst of the worst). This dude is 6'4" tall or more. He's probably 250+ lbs. He's young and angry and crazy. You really think some smaller guy is going to take him on? I don't.

He'll probably be used as some kind of security/protection for some others. He'll probably be in some kind of gang before too long. His size and youth and sheer crazy anger will be exploited by other prisoners to give him some new 'job' to do on behalf of his elders in prison. You watch.

Everyone said he wouldn't survive conditions at this last place. Not only did he survive, he made friends/buddies and did better than anyone expected. This vermin is a survivor. Much like the cockroaches and rats who survive any catastrophic event, he too will continue on.

Same thing was said when Scott Peterson was sent to death row. They had him attacked and dead within 2 months. Not only is he still alive, he has a compatible group of inmates to hang out with. He's not going anywhere either...he will never see the business end of that needle he earned. He'll die of natural causes long before.

And from what I understand, JVS could obtain parole in 14 years. 28 years doesn't mean without parole. I wish it did, but it does not.

The National Geographic one was called "The World's Toughest Prisons" and was almost an hour. They covered 3 prisons in it. It actually showed the "water lines" and talked about the disease and showed how the sick ones get kicked out of the cell block and have to stay out in the "yard", where they just die.

I've been looking and looking for it - and it looks like its been taken down. Our Patty G. had it linked on her you tube account - but she couldn't post it there - she has a yahoo link to watch it - but that link doesn't work anymore either.

Was it the world's "hardest" prisons by any chance?

oops, this is America's hardest...sorry

I believe he could get paroled even sooner than that. I think the 14 years is for 'good conduct'. I recall reading somewhere (here?) that he could be out in as little as nine years.

God help any unsuspecting, young woman who crosses his path.

This is where he may end up (thanks to Owl for having me look everywhere lol)

Thank you! Also, as long as mommy and the fangirls send him money, he will also have that as a bargaining chip from drugs to protection. This is nothing but a big game to him... one that he is surviving thus far and will continue to survive.

Looks like Lurigancho is undergoing a facelift. Looks like a nice all inclusive resort now. :floorlaugh:

Is his mom sending him money? The last I heard the mom seemed to have written him off...but I have taken a break from the case so I could be wrong.

I believe his mom has stated that she will always continue to support him financially and emotionally even if he is guilty of this crime.
