"If an alien asked Pope Francis to be baptized, the leader of the Catholic Church says he would do it.

He made the comments Monday during his homily at mass at Casa Santa Marta, Vatican Radio reported.

"If, for example, tomorrow an expedition of Martians came, and some of them came to us, here ... and one says, 'But I want to be baptized!' What would happen?" the Pope said.

He then asked, "Who are we to close the doors?"

"Pope Francis says everyone has the right to be baptised, even aliens from outer space, should they come knocking on the Church's door.

The Pope said Christians cannot "close the door" on anyone who seeks baptism, even if they are "green men, with a long nose and big ears, like children draw," he said at his daily mass on Monday."

    He made a clarification later.
"As long as it's cash money up front. And none of the Euro crap either" he was heard saying.
