Saratov Airlines’ plane crashes just outside of Moscow, Russia, 71 People feared dead

“The pilots of the stricken AN-148 plane which crashed killing all 71 on board reported technical problems before takeoff, it was revealed today.

The Antonov later nosedived and exploded on the ground after leaving from Moscow's Domodedovo airport to Orsk on Sunday.

By this morning, some 1,489 fragments of bodies and 498 aircraft wreckage pieces were found in macabre searches by investigators, said an official from the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

Mystery surrounds the cause of the crash but experts have now played down the idea that it was the result of a terrorist attack.

It has now been revealed that the flight deck crew, Captain Valery Gubanov, 51, and co-pilot Sergey Gambaryan, 44, reported 'we have problems' before taxiing onto the runway.

I don’t understand why the plane taxied onto the runway if it had technical problems? This decision killed 71 people.

The pilots may have failed to turn on the deicer for the pitot tubes? Got misleading speed indications and may have thought they were stalling.

for what it is worth i did see video of the aircraft being deiced prior to departure

but sounds like a real possibility the only thing that makes me hault on that is time in the air and altitude knowing she was deiced your notions here?

catastrophic engine failure ??

man if that is accurate that is the pitts just the pitts was she running late do you know ??

In a statement released on Monday, the State Investigation Committee said it had determined important details. The plane was intact as it fell, it said; there was no evidence of a fire; and any explosion happened only after the plane began losing altitude.

This contradicted early claims made by local witnesses to The Independent, who suggested the plane fell apart while still in the air.

The relatively small area where the debris was spread pretty much eliminated an explosion in the air. That eliminated a bomb for me personally, just because it wasn't widespread enough. It would have been spread much further if that was the case. About a half a mile... means it was intact until very close to impact.

they are reporting your notions!!

[FONT=&quot]“A factor in the development of a special situation in the flight could be the wrong data about flight speed on pilots’ indicators, which was likely due to iced pitot tubes [speed probes] while their heating systems were shut off,”

ah ha that report was wrong!

The RBK newspaper on Tuesday quoted sources as saying that the captain of the Russian flight refused the de-icing procedure while the plane was at Domodedovo airport. Another Russian newspaper, Kommersant, had said that this was optional given the relatively mild temperatures at the time.

In September, one engine of a Saratov Airlines An-148 shut down minutes after takeoff, but it landed safely. And in October, another An-148 that belonged to a different Russian carrier suffered an engine fire on takeoff but also managed to land.

I havent had a chance to come back to this story today. Anything new? To be honest, the idea of the pitot tubes freezing wasn't my idea, i read that on another web sight. But it reminded me of the Air France crash in the Atlantic and how susceptible the tubes are, and how a flight crew can become confused as to what is happening and cause a perfectly fine aircraft to crash.

“Black box data recovered from the ill-fated airliner that crashed outside Moscow last week suggests that the plane’s pilots had received different speed measurements preceding the crash, leading to chaos and hampering attempts to stave the tragedy.

Saratov Airlines Flight 703 plummeted in the Moscow region four minutes after departing from Domodedovo Airport on Sunday, claiming 71 lives.

The pilots' "inarticulate cries" can be heard on the flight recorder immediately before the crash, the Kommersant business daily reported on Thursday.

Citing an unnamed source familiar with the black box data, the outlet said that it showed “the pilots didn’t understand why distorted speed readings showed up on the displays,” hampering efforts to bring the critical situation under control.

According to the data, the pilots had failed to turn on the heating of the An-148 aircraft’s pressure measurement equipment before takeoff, despite the procedure being listed on a preflight checklist.

The pilots reportedly got into an argument about the data while trying to solve the problem, increasing the speed and tilting the plane to the ground preceding the crash.”

I can't imagine being on the flight. So horrible. Prayers to families.
