A Fairmont man on Monday pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of a 63-year-old man whose body was found in an auto shop on West Fifth Street last year.
According to District Attorney Johnson Britt, Hilton Oxendine Jr. was sentenced to between eight years and a maximum of 12 years and eight months in prison for the murder of Clarence Stephen Maynor. Oxendine ran the auto shop, and rented the building from Maynor...
Oxendine, who turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office, told sheriff deputies that Maynor had been dead since Feb. 20 and that his body was inside the Fifth Street garage. He admitted to killing Maynor after they argued over rent money and a lease for the building. Oxendine said he pulled a handgun out of his desk and shot Maynor after the argument turned violent.
