CCSO Public Information Officer Major Jim Brady confirms that Traveler's Rest police had found a gun in Robert McCaffrey's car the night he was pulled over for speeding. According to Chief Lance Crowe of the Travelers Rest Police, the gun was properly transported and "was only inadvertently brought out when Mr McCaffrey was asked for his vehicle registration."

This, to me, says it was IN the glove compartment or the center console with the vehicle registration. The officer had no reason to believe this man may have killed (or was planning to kill) his wife.

Also, I might be a little biased, being born, raised and a proud member of the Charleston community, but give LE a little bit of credit. They wouldn't be searching where they're seaching if they had any reason to believe she was somewhere else.

Also, keep in mind that they are trying to build a case against this guy. Pretty much all they have now is circumstantial evidence. I don't think it would be smart for LE to let everyone including the defense know what they're thinking, where they're going next, and any other information that could prevent them from collecting solid evidence.
 
I haven't visited this thread in awhile. I am sorry to hear that they still have not found her.

Also, prayers that resolution is found for her children today. Prayers for continued safety of searchers and the law enforcement working to bring this case to justice.

Gayle McCaffrey was reported missing from her residence, by her husband Robert McCaffrey on March 18, 2012. Robert McCaffrey told deputies that he last saw Gayle McCaffrey on March 17, around 10p.m. before he left the residence to travel to Easley, SC. She has not been seen or heard from since being reported missing.

Organizers of the search say there is no new information that leads them to believe they will definitely find anything today. The land being searched is about 200 acres of land owned by Gayle's family member.

Deputies from Pickens as well as Charleston County are involved with the search, but the majority of those out here are volunteers with the CUE Center for Missing Persons.

I hope she will be found as it seems there will never be charges without the remains. It is so obvious that she was killed & by whom.

He should be in prison.
 
A week-long search followed and on May 2, 2012, CCSo Sheriff Al Cannon held a press conference announcing that the case had been upgraded from a missing person's case to a homicide investigation and that Robert McCaffrey has been named a suspect. They also announced the existence of another woman, a love interest of Robert's who is cooperating with police in their investigation.

I don't remember hearing about that nurse. I believe he has a new g/f different from the one he had when Gayle went missing, but I could be wrong. I'll go back and try to find where I read that.(probably on FB)

Sister looks for closure as crews search for Gayle McCaffrey

"We never expected it to drag on this long," Banach said. "We really though that someone would find her."

The search concluded at 3 p.m. and Brady said no additional evidence was discovered. He also said no additional searches had been scheduled. The community also helped in the recent search with the First Baptist Church Choir providing lunch to searches and Sam's Club providing funds for water and food.
