"This incident – which is also being investigated by SLED – was soon followed by the shocking revelations that Murdaugh was battling an opioid addiction and allegedly embezzling more than $10 million from the prestigious Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth and Detrick (PMPED) law firm where he and his family members have worked for decades."

10 million, it that winds up being the correct amount, is an awful lot of money to go missing in a three year period from lawyer's fee money accounts and not one lawyer at PMPED missed it? Don't you think it must have been taken over a longer period of time?

Depends on how many millions a month the firm took in. I know quite a few companies that wouldn't miss 10m being taken over a couple of months. Companies you wouldn't even believe like construction, casinos, doctors offices ect.

I have changed my mind totally since the beginning of this case.I was sure Paul was the target and Maggie was killed because she was a witness. Now I think Maggie was killed by someone hired to kill her and Paul wasn't supposed to be there but was killed as a witness or trying to protect Maggie. That's why I think the 911 call was genuine about AM being shocked Paul was dead.

and while no normal person would want their son killed...if PM were "involved" in defending his mother from execution, to me that would be understandable. If it were my son I would be proud of him rather than wish he do something other than come to the aid of his own mother.
Unless I knew what was to happen and did not realize the son would be there...if he were not the intended victim.

It’s clear as day to me…at least “For God sakes, Paul, […] not to get involved.” It would be helpful to tone down the voice of that brash operator in the audio, but I don’t know how to do that.

Why would AM introduce trying to commit suicide as a reason for the latest incident, just to debunk it. What is the context? It feels like he was offering information that wouldn't have initially been assumed.

To me this makes the event seem even more suspicious, and even more likely to be a botched suicide, staged after the fact to be a drive-by attack by unknown persons.

After listening to the 911 call snippets, I agree that it does sound like he's admonishing (the now deceased) Paul for getting involved in some way. It might be worth trying to clean up the audio to see if there's any other unguarded comments being made in the background.

Bear in mind that this is only speculation, but now I am leaning towards the theory that AM intended to kill his wife. Perhaps she had found out about the embezzlement and was threatening to go public, or had had enough of his drug addiction, or was threatening a costly divorce and the airing out of the family's dirty laundry.

He uses an assault rifle and perhaps a pretext to get her to come outside. He is not expecting Paul to be there, though. Paul hears the shots and comes running outside to investigate, carrying the shotgun with him. He is shocked to come upon his own father who manages to talk him down and to give him the shotgun. AM turns the shotgun on his son, fearful that the truth might come out if he doesn't kill him too. That would explain him being upset that Paul got involved. An unintended victim, collateral damage.

One thing I would like to throw out there about AM's "alibi". It was reported that he took his father to the hospital and stayed there with him visiting for hours. My brother who has heart problems recently had an episode with chest pains (Not a heart attack thank God). 911 was called and he was transported to the hospital. I don't know how it is in SC but I followed the ambulance to the hospital and was told at the emergency doors to wait outside. My sister brought him an overnight bag and was told the same thing after a nurse took the bag. The doctor came outside where we were waiting and told us his condition. We were informed we would not be allowed in the hospital to see or visit with him because of Covid so we went home. They called us when they were ready to discharge him. They brought him out to the car.

Based on this I am wondering about AM's "airtight alibi" of staying with his father at the hospital. As I said, that happened here and I do not know how the hospitals are handling Covid in SC but I would think it would be the same way as OK does.

Anyone else had any experience with hospitals doing this since Covid in other states?

Someone posted a side picture of AM's car beside the road they got off face book or somewhere but I can't find it now. If whoever posted it would be so kind as to post it again, I thought I saw two bullet holes in the back drivers side fender right above the fender well. I wanted to enlarge it and look again but it is back in thread 5 and it would be all day to find it now. TIA
Maybe it's in the Media Thread.?

Or the same Sams who grazed his head first before driving him off? Nothing would surprise me at this point. Would love to hear what SLED found from the cameras at the church. My suspicion is not much. YMMV

Correction: he MAKES UP an answer for everything. JMO
Lol!! Yes I stand corrected.

I know there's 5 partners (one just passed I believe). How many associates, do you know?

Well it was reported that RM couldn't get into the hospital to see AM because of covid rules, they talked by phone

My thoughts exactly. All this is just speculation, my own thoughts not fact. MM hired a forensic auditor for an audit of her finances, AM found out and an argument ensued. AM may have been impaired and grabbed a shotgun. PM might have jumped between his parents and being impaired AM pulled the trigger. I thought about the shotgun maybe being semi automatic where a finger on the trigger would cause 2 rapid fire shots before someone impaired by alcohol or drugs realized it. MM takes off running and he grabs something with an infrared scope because it's dark.

I think your scenario makes lots of sense. First of all, it's obvious that MM was contemplating divorce (at least to me and you, ha). She was very concerned about the source of their "lifestyle" and gets the forensic audit going. While the firm's records were not part of that, I wouldn't be surprised if the auditors gave a call to the bookkeeper/accountant desk of the firm, to make sure they had the right records (because it wasn't all adding up). All it would take is one person finding out about that audit and anyone in their right mind at the law firm would look into their own situation. How does $10M go missing? MM probably wondered where all the money was coming from - and perhaps she noticed that other lawyers in a similar position at the firm didn't seem to have quite the cash flow that she and Alex did.

Or someone else noticed the disparity.

I thought we heard early on that the bodies were found some 30-50 feet apart, which is consistent with your theory. I don't think we know if the shotgun was semi-automatic (I assume it would be).

At any rate, it's either 1 person wielding 2 guns (and perhaps having a practical reason, as you suggest, for switching - and perhaps being prepared for such an event; perhaps even trying to make it look as if it's a stranger attack) OR it's 2 people with 2 guns. LE's behavior makes me think they have dismissed the idea of a roaming pair of murderers (perhaps bent on property crime?) in the vicinity.

It could also have happened the other way. AM could have called MM down to the kennel area on some pretext, with PM trailing just behind (she may have had her phone with her).

I too am only speculating. And there may really have been drug/alcohol impairment in the picture. We're hearing that no drugs or alcohol was found in Alex's blood at the hospital, but I believe that to be via his attorney (Griffin) and/or the podcast (which is likely a PR move).

He doesn't need to draw attention to more of his illegal behavior, but he's definitely in a delicate and ticklish legal situation...

Thank you! I was afraid of being trashed for my post so I tried to delete it.

I think many people are only thinking about the good things about having money and perceived power - when in reality, it may have been hell, and impossible to live up to.

I probably would have turned to Anything to dull the pain… Especially after the boating accident.

I grew up in a family in which the Only option was to be the most successful…and it was crippling. I turned to drugs as a coping mechanism - and compared to AM, my life was cake. No one suspected - straight A’s, Ivy League school…..

So, whether or not AM has a drug problem, I can see why he would - and have empathy for Everyone.

Am I allowed to say this? If not, mods feel free to delete.
I agree with you. My 15 year use of drugs started out legitimately with back surgery but stresses from having three kids: one at Harvard, one at Baylor and one at Texas A&M all at the same time put so much stress on me to try and keep them up as they were used too at home. Even with each having a scholarship and working it was difficult so to sleep better it was Opioids to the rescue. Thankfully a wreck I was in by myself while using woke me up and all has ended well.

Yes in Texas this happens at all hospitals that are around my area because of uprisings in Covid.

either way if the the words Paul and involved are used and AM is not proud of his son for that...it's very telling.

Totally agree here.
I just said the same thing a minute ago. Exactly. I'm glad it's not just me thinking that.

Do you mean for PM to give the gun to AM?
