A private search group utilizing cadaver dogs assisted Horry County Police and Horry County Fire Rescue on Monday in a mission along the Little Pee Dee River in Galivants Ferry.

Police spokesman Robert Kegler says the crews were searching for evidence in the case of a missing woman whose car was found in this river on Friday.

Kegler said that on Friday evening, the Marion County Sheriff's Office located a vehicle belonging to Susan DeLuca, an Aynor woman reported missing on April 29.

Kegler said DeLuca was last seen possibly in mid-April, but she wasn't reported missing for another two weeks.

Members of HCPD's crime scene were on standby at the landing while HCFR's dive team rode along the banks of the river. Around 9:30 a.m., a cadaver dog specializing in water searches boarded the dive team's boat, and the crews worked for about an hour.

The dogs took a break, but were launched again onto the river by boat around 11:00. By 11:20, the dogs and boats were out of the water, and Kegler said there was no evidence found during the search.

Crews on scene think DeLuca's vehicle went into the river via a boat ramp. They do not think it went over the bridge on US Highway 501 near the Galivants Ferry boat landing.

A body found in a grassy field between Palmetto Pointe Boulevard and the Azalea Lakes subdivision is that of an older woman, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Willard says the woman is a size eight or ten, but she can not yet give us an age range.

Police were called around 7:30 Monday night after a 13-year-old boy and two of his friends discovered the body.

The teen stayed home from school Tuesday because he was disturbed by what he saw. Kevin Boutnique of Surfside Beach told us he was visiting friends in the area. They were looking for bamboo and golf balls in the woods and took a different route than usual. He says he smelled something and when he looked down, he saw the body. He says the person was wearing a pink shirt. The boy than ran away and told his mother, who then called police.

The officer who responded was taken to the scene by the teen. According to the incident report, the officer found a "small in stature body to be decomposing laying face down in a low lying area of the field."

Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County Police says the body had been there for approximately a year or less.

An autopsy is being done Tuesday, but because the body is decomposed it may take several days to make an identification.

One missing person's case still unsolved in Horry County is the Brittaneee Drexel case. Drexel was 17-years-old and on spring break in Myrtle Beach in April 2009 when she vanished.

NewsChannel 15 spoke with Brittanee's mother, Dawn Drexel, Tuesday morning. She said she received a call from a source close to the investigation, who told her they don't believe the body is Brittanee's.

We'll post more details as we get them.

Are there any stats on her height/weight etc.? Just looking at her picture it appears she has a long neck...and I'm thinking she has some height on her - maybe somewhere between 5'5" to 5'8"?

Still nothing on the body that was found?
Praying for answers with the New Year!

Any further info on Susan? Just did a google search on her and didn't find any new news...

Voluntary Disappearance? Planning to meet up with someone who would rescue her from her job at the Waffle House which went horribly wrong?

Details of Disappearance
DeLuca was last seen in Aynor, South Carolina on April 15, 2010. She was planning to go to Maryland to visit relatives, but she never arrived. They reported her missing on April 29.

DeLuca quit her job at the Waffle House in Aynor just before she vanished. She may have been seen near Sparky's Fireworks on U.S. 501 in Marion County, South Carolina around the time of her disappearance.

DeLuca's silver Dodge Stratus with the South Carolina license plate number AIL-991 disappeared with her. In June, the car was found submerged in the Little Pee Dee River. Authorities believe the car got into the river via a boat ramp. They searched the water with cadaver-smelling dogs but didn't find any sign of DeLuca herself.

DeLuca moved to Aynor about five years before her disappearance and rented a mobile home on William Nobles Road; her landlord described her as a good tenant.

Her father stated she was somewhat of a transient, but she has never gone this long without contact with her family. She left all her belongings behind at home. Her case remains unsolved.

Hi, I was wondering if she had been compared to this Jane doe, other than her hair length she seems very similar to her. If she was on her way to Maryland she could have been in Spartanburgh. She was found the next year.
