This is one of those stories that makes you want to cry. A woman knowingly neglected her baby over the course of 7 weeks. The baby died; the 'mother' is accused of murdering her infant son "by extreme neglect." Some people should not be in the care of children. She lost another child, by a different father, in 2006. I hope they investigate further if there is any possibility of neglect in the other child's death. What a piece of carp.

The indictment alleges Poitra neglected her son over the course of seven weeks, causing the death of Keeshawn Poitra-Doyle on Aug. 23.

OMG in the past she was nominated for a victims advocacy award because she got help for a baby she found in a friend's home!

And here are the actions for which she got an award:

Please accept this correspondence as a letter of nomination for Kehunna Poitra and
Ronald Dull Knife to receive the National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Special Courage Award
from this distinguished committee. It is with great pleasure that I nominate Kehunna Poitra and
Ronald “Ronnie” Dull Knife of Wanblee, South Dakota, for this award.

It looks like the other baby was stillborn

I just thought of a question. The baby was 5 months old. So how did the media or LE come up with the accusation that she neglected him over the last 7 weeks?

FFT-Failure to Thrive is diagnosed by the "presence of two factors: the infant is under the fifth percentile in both height and weight, and the infant at one time weighed and was of a height within the expected norm. Failure to treat this condition can result in the death of the infant. The child simply wastes away and dies."

BBM The other baby was a few days old, not stillborn; the stillborn was the first name on the list. Her baby was the second name on the list. There may have been an FAS problem.

This POC 'mother' got 10 years...I hope she never has kids again. IMHO

U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says the infant was sent home from the hospital, and Poitra was given strict instructions for his care including monitoring, medication and a specialized machine and formula.

Johnson says she failed to provide the care, which resulted in extreme malnourishment, dehydration and ultimately pneumonia.
