I posted the length of time when hypothermia sets in. Even after 20 mins she would start becoming delusional.

She probably was cold but would have no clue she could die from it.

By the time she was discovered to be outside, I imagine she was well on her way to becoming really delusional and soon to,die

The odds aren’t in her favor at all, but never show me the odds.

On the other hand, this will hopefully provide a wake up to those who provide funding for the little ones who wind up without parents and in the public system of child care. I know many would like it if places like this were invaluable resources for troubled kids.

As far as I’m concerned, I’ve never experienced any physical abuse. My post was my honest opinion about my personal experience and how abusive my whole childhood was, mentally and emotionally and psychologically. Then how alone I felt when nobody cared.

Praying for results from the search today although that thought is bittersweet. I would like to think, and have some slim hope, that she is alive but if not, this little girl needs to be laid to rest and be brought home.

The forecast for Rapid City area is a high of 64 degrees and clear per the weather link I looked at.

Unofficial Serenity search helps law enforcement prepare for Wednesday
The official search for Serenity Dennard will continue Wednesday, but on Sunday, State Sen. Lynne DiSanto called in volunteers for an unofficial search.

On Sunday, volunteers searching for Serenity Dennard combed through about 20 square miles, marking and photographing anything that stood out.

"We had some very specific things that were found out on location. Some items that could be a child's item and those items were all flagged, pictured, and sent over to the sheriff's department to take a look and go out and look at them," says DiSanto.

    [...]

"Some of where we covered was area they already covered and we knew that, but we figure it's better to have a second set of eyes looking in an area if they feel like that area is important," says DiSanto.

Now that there is less snow, the Sheriff's office feels the same way as they plan to thoroughly search all areas they believe Serenity could have gone to.

"Go over some of the same areas we already looked, we're going to look again. Where DiSanto's folks were, get the dogs in that area too. Again we're just, while we have them resources here then we're gonna cover a lot of ground and a lot of area," says Whelchel.

If Serenity is not found Wednesday or this weekend, there are plans for another search in the following weeks which may require more volunteers.

Ground, air search for South Dakota girl resumes Wednesday
    [...]

The sheriff's office says air and ground searches will resume Wednesday for Serenity Dennard who disappeared in frigid weather Feb. 3 when she ran away from Black Hill's Children's Home near Rockerville. Authorities say she was not dressed for the weather and that it's unlikely she survived if she was outside.

Searchers with specially trained dogs have looked extensively for the girl, but have been hampered previously by wintry weather.

The favorable weather today is certainly welcomed in our search for Serenity. Air and ground teams are spread out and scouring the landscape.

It's a good thing they are getting in this search today. When I looked at the projected weather for the next few days, they are saying 5-8 inches of snow on Friday. :(

Efforts to find missing Serenity Dennard back on
Now with the snow melting, the search is on, with 80 people searching around Teepee Gulch Road Wednesday in hopes of finding 9-year-old Serenity Dennard.

    [...]

"We've always been watching the weather and the snowmelt to determine when we would get into the woods,” Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom said.

“There was no sense coming up here when it was all snow covered and you can't get people around. You get people hurt. So we were waiting for the right opportunity."

In addition to searching on foot, a helicopter and two K-9 units from the Northern Hills joined the effort.

Each searcher had a bag of food and water because they didn't plan to take any lunch breaks during the search.

Rapid City Police Chief Karl Jegeris remains hopeful.

"It is most likely that she is still in this proximity however we can't rule anything out,” Jegeris said. “While we continue the search we also have a parallel investigation ongoing and both of those efforts will continue until she is located."

The search will resume Saturday morning.

I see 3 to 5 with temps in the mid 30s steady (above sticking). Not arguing or trying to, I am just saying this is no blizzard, this is spring in states with winter and pretty minor. Not to mention it is three days off yet after a 60 some degree day.

I do wonder at times if they know something that makes them think the search in the woods/ area is not necessary. I have no idea but it comes from the entirely confusing and conflicting reports in this case.

Although I am learning fast that is not unusual in any case...

I don't think we've heard any specifics. Just that they've conducted over 200 interviews, served three search warrants, and followed 45 leads in South Dakota and out of state. That was as of Mar 4, so it's probably fair to assume that those numbers have increased. MOO
