Sheila and Katherine Lyon-sisters missing since 1975 - #2

I opened up my fb page a few minutes ago and for some reason, I was very emotional seeing Sheila and Katherine's photos.

Then I realized:
"Wait!! Today is March 25!!"

Am I correct that IT IS 42 YEARS ago TODAY, that this whole nightmare began??!!

STILL feeling the pain for SOOO many affected people!!!😢

This is really suspicious. Losing something like that just reeks of foul play in the Sheriffs office.

I sincerely hope that everyone involved in the custody of evidence understands the seriousness of tampering with evidence. Here in Kansas, a gun that had been confiscated from a defendant disappeared from an evidence locker at a police station and turned up at the scene of a murder in California. This happened about 10 years ago. While the sheriff was not personally responsible, he had to resign, and no one has forgotten about it. I hope there is a thorough investigation about this, and that the tooth is found.

At this point, it won't matter because chain of custody of the evidence has been compromised

One of the original witnesses have flat-out said that the cops screwed this case up very badly. If they hadn't, this could have been solved back in the day.

My parents were living in the area when this happened, and I can tell you how it affected them during my childhood, lol.

You do realize that "tampering with evidence" is a crime? What evidence do you have that a crime was committed by the police?

A few things that came out of the motions hearing on Friday. LLW2's lawyers plan to introduce purported evidence at trial that LLW2 has an "intellectual disability" in order to save him from the death penalty if he is found guilty. http://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title19.2/chapter15/section19.2-264.3:1.1/
They've spent tens of thousands of dollars of tax payer's money on hiring paid "specialists" who will support this claim.
They also feel LLW2 is unsafe in prison and needs special accommodations. It's really too bad that a serial pedophile murderer just can't feel safe in prison. They also have requested a change of venue because they don't feel he can get a fair trial in Bedford. Seems LLW2's cunning lawyers are going to throw everything they can at the wall and see what might stick.

Bedford County Sheriff's Dept lost a key piece of forensic evidence that tied the sisters to Taylor's Mountain.

From above:

"It’s not clear when the tooth went missing. But in a court filing dated in February that details experts who might testify at the trial, prosecutors listed anthropologists who are expected to testify about bone fragments discovered during several searches of the Welch family property.

However, prosecutors did not list any forensic expert who could analyze testing done on the now-gone tooth to determine whether it came from one of the Lyon girls.

Instead, prosecutors have only a photograph of the tooth, and the girls’ dental records, for use at trial"

Hmmmm. If they want a change of venue, they could always try Maryland!

Since LLW has traveled with a carnival, he has been all over the country. Since he's a criminal, he has committed crimes in many different parts of the country. They might be better off just leaving his trial in Virginia.

At this point I would take two guilty verdicts for kidnapping while the case for finding the girls or their bodies continues for verification. Bring him back to Maryland. He is surrounded by family where he is now.

"Change of venue" does not involve changing states. It means that the trial could be moved from Bedford County, VA to another county in Virginia.

Yeah, but Maryland has more ownership here than any other county in Virginia. Lets face it: a jury that has not heard about this case is going to be very hard to find on the East Coast, unless it consists entirely of millennials.

We do not know for certain what the Defense lawyers are planning, but certainly they are taking every preliminary precaution and making motions to limit the charges and potential consequences should he be convicted.

Lloyd Welch Jr.'s mental condition should be taken into consideration. A case could easily be made that he has mental impairments and disabilities - dating back to 1975 and earlier. In the early 1980's Welch pleaded "Not guilty by reason of insanity" to charges of assault and battery - probably with a certain amount of documentation and testimony to support his plea. Although he was found guilty anyway there would have been a lot of evidence introduced by both the defense and prosecution regarding his mental problems and his sanity. There exists in Maryland court records the evaluations of Welch by Psychiatrists employed by the state.

In Virginia, as in some other Capital Punishment states, the issue of executing someone with mental disorders/disabilities is (or can be) separate from whether or not the accused can be tried and found guilty of a crime. What the defense is trying to do is take the death penalty "off the table" in advance of the trial itself.

Here's the dealio with Maryland: back in the 1980's, LLW was unable to get himself a private attorney or a bed in an expensive mental hospital, and it was abundantly clear that he knew it was morally wrong and against the law to assault and batter another person, so he was found guilty. I've seen Maryland allow some criminals to get away with lots of unlawful behavior before finally putting them away, but those are usually rich criminals with great enablers, and it usually turns out to be a mistake on Maryland's part to grant that kind of leniency, anyway. Hopefully, Virginia will not fall for this nonsense.

Here's a really cool idea for taking the death penalty off the table.......Lloyd Lee "Michael" Welch can tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about the whole situation! He can discuss everything from his use of a vehicle without a drivers license to his interference with Mr. and Mrs. Lyon's parental rights to his unlawful restraint and wrongful imprisonment of Sheila and Katherine to the acts of murder and abuses of corpses. He can also discuss the involvement of any enablers turned accomplices and the help he received from them while tampering with evidence. He can also turn in anyone, relative or not, who lied or failed to come forward with the appropriate information about these two murders. If he is willing to do all that, the prosecution will probably take the death penalty off the table.
