21merc.........I hear you. She lied because lying is all she knows. I don't think of it as "evil" I think of it as a pathology. She could have dredged up enough sympathy for reasonable doubt.......but she couldn't because she can't relate to real basic human emotions........she can only try to imitate them. I feel sorry for her, but I do think that she is a predator and doesn't even know it. I personally don't believe in the death penalty for ANYONE so I was hoping that the state wouldn't waste (further) the taxpayers' money and just put her in prison for life to protect society. But a whole lot of people in this country are death penalty happy in a biblical sense.......thus, the sentencing goes on and on ad infinitum. If she chooses to die, I'm sure she could find a way to make it happen before the state FINALLY executes her. MY OPINION ONLY

I'm with you all the way cady. I do think she would kill many and this was her first.

I, too, am opposed to the death penalty. Only one case made me question myself and still does. jed, iii.

Convicted murderer JA does need more than a nice prison stay with privileges though. I wonder if we have those tiny cells like Paul Bernado spent so many years in, with a camera recording his every minuscule move, no one watching but the guards, no, absolutely NO privileges. No mail, no phone, no library note passing, no contact. Just food and a shower whenever. I really do not know a proper punishment for such a heinous murder against a normal, average, yet nice and upcoming young man. (Or the many other useless murders I am exposed to, even if I don't come here.) This one, however, is very violent, extremely so. Her knife just couldn't make pieces. If she was a man, she would have already killed and disposed of many at age 26.

I really do not like being so judgmental. But I am. I don't want others to be that way with my mistakes, but this is no mistake. CMJA did more than make a boo boo.

So who here thinks that a plea settlement will be reached?

I personally cannot see it happening. The two sides are too far apart. I can't see CMJA going for anything less than the minimum allowable sentence with no conditions attached. Likewise, the Alexanders were very firm in expressing their desire for the death penalty. Tanisha seemed to be the most vocal. Steven seems to be the most traumatized by the murder of his brother and may want it as part of his healing?

In her previous plea offer, she rejected any thought of pleading guilty to first degree murder and offered to negotiate only "if the State was willing to discuss resolution within the parameters of the sentences available for second degree murder." The minimum sentence could have been 10 years.

Since there are statuary guidelines for sentencing for first degree murder, as the law currently stands she will spend the rest of her life in prison. IIRC, the minimum sentence is life imprisonment and Arizona law does not provide for parole at this time.

From what this layman can gather, both the DT and the judge have been extremely cautious in this case to ensure that there is no basis for appeal. If CMJA does not get the death penalty, from what I understand, any appeals would be on her dime and the taxpayers would not foot the bill. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't see a plea.

CMJA is not going to give in. Her attorneys, rightfully so, are trying to wear it down to a plea.

Juan was too embarrassed and angered that no sentence came in, just my opinion. Don't know who is boss is and if they want to give in. But, as some t.v. personality said, if there ever was a case that deemed Capital Murder and Death Penalty under today's standards, this one does.

Travis' family is another deciding factor.

I don't have an opinion on what happens, even if I am opposed to the Death Penalty. I do think that wearing it down is the goal, wearing down the Alexander family and the State and funds. That is normal though, just so you all know. I deal with this stuff daily, and it is standard procedure at this junction for the defense to save a life.

I just want it done myself either way, and no more State funds spent than necessary.

But, but, then, where will we all hang out and talk about t.v., viagra, menopause, men with shirts off or pulled up over their bellies, illnesses, music, and what have you??!! (I cannot access emoticons so put one here.)

P.S. All appellate issues are to be paid by the State, and they are automatic in this type of murder conviction. They are usually satisfied via the State Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, this takes about 3 to 4 years, maybe more, or less.

Then CMJA is on her own to prove "ineffective assistance of counsel". So far she has no grounds, but someone may handle that pro bono (for publicity, all though it will not be good for that attorney if they do), or her family or fans will have to cough that $$$ up, as I don't see the State approving since there really is no ground, her attorneys are doing their job. They are not the very best, but they have done all within the rules. Regardless her one area of criminal knowledge of whine and lie, it just is not there. That can cost someone some bucks, so dear Convicted Murder Jodi Arias Family, start saving up money now. You have a couple of years for a tossing of cash into the fire, as that is all that it will be.

*Excuse typos, my keyboard is always deleting stuff when I move my hand to a new letter.

Travis' family THINKS that her death sentence will help the "healing". IMO her death would be a slight "blip" in the "closure" they seek. And if sentenced to death, they will have to re-live the horror for each and every appeal.......They can never satisfy the need for revenge but they still HOPE to. I wish, for their sakes, that they let it go and live their lives in spite of CMJA. JMO

I agree with the bolded part of your post. I definitely believe this was just the beginning for CMJA.

I also am usually anti-death penalty. This case is one of the few exceptions for me, where her guilt is absolutely beyond doubt, no gray areas, at least imo. Also, anyone that can be this cold blooded and kill with such extreme and depraved violence is forever a danger to society. IMO.

So as far as I'm concerned, the state can do with her what they choose as she has proven what she is capable of. As far as I'm concerned she has forfeited her right to life among the human race. Jmoo

I do agree, that with the way the system works, LWOP makes the most sense. As long as they lock the door and throw away the key, that's all I care about. This demon should never, ever have the privilege to again walk among us.jmo

First and foremost, she will never be free in society again to harm another person.

While the taking of any life is abhorrent, this particular case takes things to an entirely different level of depravity for me. The cold planning, which I believe may have started as early as when she left Mesa. I don't think that she went to Mesa that day with a Plan A and Plan B; in my mind he had ripped into her so deeply that she was exposed and the only way to deal with it was to have him die. I'm at a loss for superlatives which adequately describe how I feel about the way that she has continued to try to destroy Travis, even in death.

I can easily see her killing again as she has no respect for the morals and values that we as a society hold dear. There is no respect for truth, the law or the justice system. She does not have those boundaries. I imagine that she "suffers the fools gladly" who protest her innocence, whether it be her DT, expert witnesses or the fools out there who are blind to facts and reason. I suppose on some level, I take her actions and demeanor personally as she is trying to play everyone.

I've never been for revenge, but I do believe in punishment. I want her to be haunted by what she did, but that will likely never happen. Oh, I do wish that there were ghosts, with Travis coming back and stalking her in all his gore.

How differently would I feel if she showed genuine remorse? If it was combined with her telling the truth, I would feel much differently. Still, she should never be free in society.

If she gets natural life, she does have the opportunity to be in the general prison population once they deem that she is "broken". How that is determined, I do not know. Given her conduct in court, combined with her interviews and web outlets, it would seem that Perryville figures she needs longer than many to adjust. If she is ever moved to the gen pop, I hope that she is no longer the person we see now who will try to manipulate her way around prison.

If being on death row and the associated appeal process meant that CMJA would still consider herself to be the center of the universe, then that alone would be reason enough for me to be satisfied with her getting natural life.

Uh, oh. Looks like I'm being too serious tonight and scaring everybody off.

C'mon peeps. I'm done :deadhorse: and I'm stepping off my soapbox.

This is a great post gcharlie. My thoughts are that the only punishment that will make her suffer is the death penalty. She is so delusional that she will spend all of the time she is in prison manipulating others, and thinking that she can still get away with it. After all, she thinks she's a "celebrity and artiste" :puke:. At least with the DP she would hopefully spend ALL the rest of her days in solitude. And the day will come when her appeals are up, and she realizes that they are going to put her down like the rabid animal she is.

She will never suffer until it's about HER. Then she will have fear and remorse. But never over what she did to Travis because she relishes what she did to him, and continues to do to him. She is truly evil.

It really feels like the summer has ended here- it's been so cool (and nice)- not like the August weather I'm use to. Walmart has all the school supplies in for the children.

Never played any pranks on anyone. I'm not that imaginative and I'm boring :floorlaugh:
