Aaargh! Booger alert! lol :seeya:...missed my Websleuth fix and you Sidebarians most of all.

Did a couple of days in Biloxi, MS, feeding dollar bills into the one-armed bandits that greedily siphoned it up. They've taken away all the fun slot machines that I used to enjoy and I'm pretty thrifty (ok...cheap) in general and a sore loser anyway, so I spent most of my time in our waterfront room, watching American Pickers and Storage Wars, and staring out at the Gulf. And then we went to the all-you-can-eat buffet and launched ourselves into it face first, like lions on a wildebeest. Talk about eating until your eyes bleed! Then we passed out for a few hours. Does this sound like fun? Not really. lol....We came back a day early. Plus it was a 1,000 mile round trip in our 15-year-old truck. What were we thinking?? I can have, like, a gazillion times more fun here at home, on my computer, on Websleuths. That's a fact!

Hi Everyone....when someone needs help where to go...but the Sidebar....so this is my question...

What would be the type of doctor I would want to see if I have have a swollen lymph node behind my ear?

If I take an antibiotic it goes down, I use up the script, it comes back...it started 5 years ago with the head shingles, the ear pain got worse because I was on meds with sulfa in them which was causing a reaction. Now I am off almost all meds because of the fact they have sulfa in them...you would not believe how many meds have sulfa...and I am allergic to sulfas of all kinds to include foods. The ENT drs... said it is not their problem, the Eye doctor said she cannot do anything about the convergence until the doctors do something about the infection, primary care said no more antibiotics since there is only one I can take....so it is a game of pass the patient around the doctors and get no answers.

Since it is not related to the ear, even though I get stuffy and have a sinus headache, and it is not related to the eye, even though my right eye gets blurry when the lymph node gets larger....the only thing I can do is try and figure out what kind of a doctor deals with lymph nodes?

I use vinegar and alcohol, 50-50, twice a day in the ear and that helps a bit...yes I told the doctor....she just shrugged her shoulders. She can see and feel the swollen lymph node too.

So does anyone have any ideas what kind of a doctor or specialist I should look for? Or any ideas at all?

I did find out that some meds can be made at a compound pharmacy without certain ingredients....but the doctor has to be willing to call and find out the information! The companies do not like talking to the patients...and mine, well lets just say she rather I do all the work.

Love reading what everyone posts....I will have to remember the Kale and slugs! Wonder if grubs like them? We have HUGE grubs this year....

Happy Mother's Day to everyone....and thanks!

Thank you, YoNo! I knew I should have known the type of doctors, I could almost find it in the tired recesses of my brain. But the pillow kept slamming the door on me. BLood disorders, hematology. .... of course!

Happy weekend, everybody. Happy Mothers Day tomorrow to all the moms out there, and the ones who fill in for us at times, or have furbabies, or yearn to be a mom. Oh heck. Happy Day to All!

I put this on my list a page or so back, but with severe restraint, like Choice #10 or something. Hematologists are experts in cancers of the blood, spleen, and lymph system. The one good thing in your situation about going to a hematologist is that hematologists like to run tests. They like to convince you to have more and more tests, and then more and more again.

Usually, before you get to a hematologist, there'll be at least some routine blood tests, including the CBC, sed rate, etc.

It's very uncomfortable to go down the oncology wing of a hospital, though. That's why I suggested consulting your allergist first.

I was thinking about you all morning and just had to research more (I couldn't edit my post, so I'm starting a new one):

Swollen Lymph Nodes behind the Ear

"...Possible Causes of Swollen Lymph Nodes behind the Ear
The lymph nodes are sensitive to changes in the body, most notably new tissues or particles that agitate the immune system. Listed below are some of the most common causes for swollen lymph nodes behind the left ear:

-Infections ( Fungal Infection, Bacteria in the Mouth, Mononucleosis)...
-Injury...
-Autoimmune Disease...
-Cancer....

...Your doctor will perform tests to help determine what type of infection you are suffering from so they can recommend appropriate treatment. It may be necessary to take blood samples or perform x-rays or a CT scan to see if there are tumors or other serious conditions present in the body causing the lymph nodes to become swollen. The lymph nodes behind the ears are especially sensitive to cancerous cells, so it is important to seek medical attention if these appear to be acting in an irregular way...."

I don't understand why your MDs won't pursue a more thorough exam for you as this could be serious  (not to make you all :scared: ).

5 Years is a long time and you should find a MD who will take this as a serious condition, IMO. :moo:

Good luck, my dear. :blowkiss:

I normally sleep very soundly, but on those occasions when I can't turn off my brain, I go with Benadryl. Unless you have problems with high blood pressure, it's relatively harmless, even prescribed for children. It works like a charm for me!

I cannot take Benadryl. My body reacts opposite to it. When I try to take cold and allergy meds it is like I drank a pot of coffee. I am up and down all night.

The ENT said it's not their problem ? :what: Then the only thing I can think of is what someone else posted, a good Internist. Wondering why one of your other docs didn't already refer you, sounds like they're all just dropping the ball. :gaah:

Morning all!

I get hyper on Benadryl too. Glad to hear I'm not unique...lol

Gosh, Benadryl makes me feel knocked out and drugged. Kinda wish it did make me hyper, I could use some extra energy, :giggle:

Hi everyone, I'm here Niner  But now you're gone, :giggle:

For sure, for sure!

MsJosie, for what it's worth, my husband occasionally gets swollen glands ... I took him to the emergency room the first time and the doctor said it was "grit" stuck in his salivary gland; to drink lots of water and chew gum or suck on hard candy to get the saliva flowing. It worked. But for sure get another medical opinion!

I'm baaackkkk.... :giggle:

I was just over at the missing - now found - man in NoVirginia - found in the campground. I was just thinking about when my Huz went "missing" from a rafting trip about 15 years ago - oh gosh - maybe even 20 years ago, since we will be married 25 years this coming August!!
He went with a friend up in the Sierras for a rafting-camping trip. Well, his friend came back 2 days later and told me that my Huz got into a fight defending a girl on the raft when her boyfriend hit her! And he got knocked off the raft into the water!! (My Huz is that way... you don't hit women!) Anyway, so I said did you "see" him surface?? No! Well, did you wait for him back at the campground to see if he was safe? No! :gaah: He never showed up - and so I said to him, well didn't you get the Park Rangers to look for him? No! So I'm at work when talking on the phone with this so-called "friend" of the Huz'. Told the boss had to leave and drive up to the Sierras to find my Huz!!! Of course, he let me go. Drive up to the campground - asked around if they had seen him - gave description, of course. One person HAD seen him about an hour or so ago - I said to myself Thank God!! He didn't drown!! He is/was a very good swimmer, as he beat Mark Spitz (Olympic winner of 6 gold medals, I believe he won) at a Santa Clara Swim meet - anyway - thinking, well, maybe he got a ride with someone... started walking thru the camp grounds - found another person who had seen him, and they thought he might have crashed inside a small trailer. So going over to the small trailer, start knocking on the door, no one answers. Well, I know my Huz is a heavy sleeper, so I start pounding on the door, calling his name. Out he comes... :happydance: looking no worse for wear; a bit of wet clothes and looking very tired! He said after he got knocked off the raft, he swam to shore and didn't really "know" where he was on the river. So he followed the river downstream, had to sleep overnight in the woods and then the next morning found the campgrounds that they were staying at, and said his friend had already left... nice friend, eh??
All was good! Relief!! That's the last time he went rafting without me...

:D

What an amazing story!

Just for fun, downloaded "Behind the Words: A Logical and Satirical Guide to the Impossible Defense of Jodi Arias".

"Just for fun" is "cheap speak" for, "it's free", the whole Kindle Unlimited deal.

It's like reading the side bar as the first trial was going on, lol, didn't look to see who wrote it, but I'm ready for them to write, "oh no she didn't", or "puleeze, open a real estate office?" or "try "auditing" those college courses, she NEVER graduated, and let's face it, she failed her junior year of HS."

It has a few "oh, snap" moments, like "why didn't I think of that" going on too. Am about a 3rd of the way through it, finding myself laughing out load.

It just begs the question "How could MSM have been so captivated by this "nobody"?

I have a really good idea that Travis realized her "resume" was pure garbage after a few months. To say nothing about her mental "issues". Would sure like to see 281129's school transcripts, tax returns, and REAL jobs on a timeline.

I'll bet Bobby's old place seems like a palace, now that 281129 is stuck in PV. Even that tent out on the campground at Ventana.

MsJosie

Just remembered this from the Golden Girls: (As you can see, I'm really angry at your MD and can't get that out of my mind today :stormingmad: ).
Please get another opinion from a different MD. :blowkiss:

The rose-breasted Grosbeaks have come back to my feeder. They have a very unusual red thingy on their breast (hence the name  )- very striking and they have very thick beaks.

Ha! I could drink take the while pack and still be wide awake. My dog likes it thought --- she gets itchy from allergies.

.Most meds seem to have an opposite effect on me. The only OTC that worked really well for me was taken off the market for some reason (Excedrin PM)-- I sure miss it.

Yes! if the body is going to ache and grumble, then I might as well give it a good reason to complain.

Yikes, Girl. Did you move? Near freezing temps at night? This is crazy weather.

Excedrin PM is Tylenol and Benadryl combined. I think Walmart has it. HTH

Happy Mother's Day to everyone....and thanks!

I have a couple of questions:
What exactly was "head shingles" and exactly where/when did they occur?
Do you take a decongestant like Sudafed or Allegra?
Why do you put vinegar in your ear? Do you have ear pain?
From the shingles, do you have any residual nerve pain or symptoms?
Is your throat ever sore?
What antibiotic have you been given and were you given the antibiotic for the lymph node enlargement or for a sinus infection?
Is the enlarged lymph node at the junction of your jaw, behind your ear?
What drug did they use to treat your shingles?

Shingles typically follow a nerve root/path. There are a bunch of cranial nerves, and the herpes may be what is affecting your vision. I will ask my DH MD when he gets home tomorrow who he would send you to. I am leaning towards in infectious disease doc, and an ophthalmologist. Swollen lymph nodes are typically a sign of infection, inflammation or cancer. The infection can be viral, which shingles (herpes zoster) are. You may need a course of Acyclovir or comparable.

Hope you feel better.

ETA: Can you hold off on the vinegar/alcohol in your ear and let me know what happens? I would stop that for now if you can. IMO

How about some opera tonight? Yes- No. It's a beautiful opera- oh well :sheesh:

---------------------------

English Translation of "Un bel di, vedremo"

One good day, we will see
Arising a strand of smoke
Over the far horizon on the sea
And then the ship appears
And then the ship is white
It enters into the port, it rumbles its salute.
Do you see it? He is coming!
I don't go down to meet him, not I.
I stay upon the edge of the hill
And I wait a long time
but I do not grow weary of the long wait.

And leaving from the crowded city,
A man, a little speck
Climbing the hill.
Who is it? Who is it?
And as he arrives
What will he say? What will he say?
He will call Butterfly from the distance
I without answering
Stay hidden
A little to tease him,
A little as to not die.
At the first meeting,
And then a little troubled
He will call, he will call
"Little one, dear wife
Blossom of orange"
The names he called me at his last coming.

All this will happen,
I promise you this
Hold back your fears -
I with secure faith wait for him.
