A Des Moines pizza delivery driver who was suspended after he shot an alleged armed robber last week said Tuesday that he has been overwhelmed by support from people who cheered what happened.

"But no one had contacted me directly about a job offer," said James William Spiers III, 38, who was suspended by Pizza Hut after he fired multiple shots at a man who allegedly put a gun to his head Thursday and demanded money at the Sutton Hill Apartments, 2100 S.E. King Ave.

Sort of like that Home Depot employee who ran down some robbers and got fired.

The reward for bravery is unemployment.

Didn't that happen at a 7-11 type store too?

I know that they tell you to just hand over the money, but good lord. The robber was armed, he stood a pretty high chance of being shot regardless. Give the man a raise, not a trip to the unemployment line.

I can see that unemployment interview. "Well, sir, I saved my boss' store from being robbed, and they fired me."
