Suspect entered Newmarket couple's bedroom with knife as they slept: police

York Regional Police have issued an arrest warrant after a suspect allegedly broke into a couple’s Newmarket home, grabbed a knife and stole items out of their bedroom as they slept.

Police were called to a home on Adams Place, near Yonge Street and Davis Drive, at around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 23 after the homeowners discovered there had been a break-in overnight.

Surveillance cameras inside and outside the home captured a suspect at the entrance and inside the kitchen and on Friday, police released some of the video.

Police continue to search for suspect wanted after alleged break and enter in Newmarket

''According to police, 19-year-old Justin Plant forced his way into a home on Adam Place in the area of Yonge Street, and Davis Drive around 3 a.m. on May 23.

During the incident, police say the suspect entered two unlocked vehicles in the driveway before entering the home through the front entrance. He then proceeded to the kitchen where he took a knife and tucked it into his waistband before entering the bedroom where the homeowners were sleeping, taking a cell phone and an undisclosed amount of money.

According to police, the homeowners did not wake up during the incident.

Plant is described as short with a heavy build with a tattoo on the inside of his left arm.

A warrant has been issued for the suspect's arrest. Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police.''

Suspect ID’d in B&E at Newmarket home while homeowners slept
''Justin Plant, 19, of no fixed address, is described as white with short dark hair, a heavy build and a tattoo on the inside of his left forearm.

Police advise Plant to speak with a lawyer and surrender.
