    http://www.srf.ch/news/regional/zue...r-ist-ein-mehrfach-vorbestrafter-aussenseiter

The Schaffhauser police have identified the chainsaw attacker: he is a 51-year-old outsider who lives mostly in forests. He is still in possession of the chainsaw, the police told a media conference. Where the perpetrator is, is unclear. The investigators cannot rule out that he may have gone to Germany either.

The Schaffhausen authorities are informing about the latest findings at a media conference. The injured are no longer in a life threatening situation.

The perpetrator allegedly lives mainly in the woods and is considered very dangerous. The attack was directed against the insurance company. All-clear cannot be given.

The man may react very aggressively, according to the police. Therefore, the public is urged to contact the police immediately if the man is sighted.

According to the authorities, the German police are also involved in the search. A total of more than 100 police officers are involved.

When this started, I had no idea it would turn out like this.
My first thought was terrorism, like many did. Unfortunately that is our default thought these days.

He has lost his car, so where will he sleep?

Video: "I saw him often in his car"
A Swiss woman passed his car in the woods every day for the last four weeks, she saw the man too and never had or problem or felt threatened, and then she heard the news this morning ... listen to the rythm of her voice as she tells ...

POLICE: PICTURE OF CHAINSAW MAN SHORTLY BEFORE THE ATTACK

    Blick.ch
    https://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/z...en-polizei-riegelt-altstadt-ab-id7038782.html

The Schaffhauser police and the public prosecutor's office of the canton of Schaffhausen have published a current search photo of Franz Wrousis, that was taken immediately before the attack. The search continues on full steam.

The investigation led to another photo of the perpetrator, that has been taken immediately before the crime. It can be observed that the perpetrator was wearing a green windbreaker and black trousers. He carried a big black bag in which he allegedly transported the chainsaw. Also, the photo shows that the offender has a high brow and short brown hair.

FRANZ WROUSIS: THE ROAD TO SCHAFFHAUSEN

    Blick.ch
    https://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/z...s-leben-des-motorsaegen-mannes-id7042319.html

This morning, Franz Wrousis (51) ran amok. At about 9.30 he went to the office of the CSS health insurance company in Schaffhausen with a chainsaw and attacked several people. Two people were injured - one of them severely. Now he's on the run.

But who is the motorsaw man?

His former landlord Beat E. (64) describes Wrousis as introverted. From 2014 to 2016, Wrousis lived alone in a 1 1/2 room apartment in Beromünster LU. "He had received IV benefits due to a car accident. Since then he had had a trauma," E says.
"At first he was always pleased when I spoke to him. Towards the end of the tenancy, however, he became more and more weird "
Wrousis would have left quite suddenly. "He practically left everything behind. Also his furniture and religious books. We had to dispose of them," the pharmacist says. However, the tenant did pay everything, the disposal was also covered. "I know he went to the Engadin after that. Maybe in a home. But I'm not sure."

Benjamin Schmid (34) from the Backpacker Deluxe Hotel Capricorn in Laax GR can also remember Wrousis. Three months ago he checked in with him. "He wanted to stay for a whole month, explaining that he needed distance from the outside world. He said he had ordered a VW Caddy. He wanted to go into the mountains with it. Simply far away from the people. He said something about bad vibes. "

But the already next day, Wrousis takes off again and hitches a ride with the Postauto. "He found me unsympathetic," Schmid says. "At the bar he told me I could see into his head. He was strange. He could not have stayed for a long time with his manners anyway. When I hear what he's done, I'm glad he was gone so quickly. He seems really dangerous. " To date, Schmid receives mail for Wrousis.

The next time Franz Wrousis appeared two or three months ago in Feuerthalen ZH, a neighboring community of Schaffhausen. As the eyewitness Fabienne Unger told "20 minutes", he camped in a secluded parking lot in the forest. There, too, he stood out negatively. "He attacked me and my partner two times in the most violent verbal manner and shouted and offended us for no reason," according to the woman. She informed the police twice about this. But she did not think the man was dangerous.

Wrousis moves to the neighboring Uhwiesen ZH about four weeks ago. He parks his white VW Caddy in a parking lot at the edge of the forest, where he also sleeps. Before this, he places his "material" under a plastic tarp.

The municipality president of Uhwiesen ZH, Ruedi Karrer, lived only 300 meters from Wrousis abode. "I walked the dog past the spot every day," he says to BLICK.

On one occasion, his wife had spoken to him and asked whether he was a wanderer. "Then he told the dog that he had a great hairdresser, and afterwards spoke confused things about God."

The behavior of the eccentric one irritated the village population. Several reported Wrousis, according to Karrer, to the police. He was the talk of the village. Also because he became increasingly weird. "Then, two or three weeks ago, my colleague saw him with a bald head. And he had a chainsaw," a local woman says to 20 minutes."

On the other hand, President Karrer was not worried: "The police paid him a visit at the beginning, noted the number plate, and left a card with the message that he had to report. Since the police did nothing else, I thought he was safe."

But this was a false assumption, as it turned out. Wrousis ran amok with the chainsaw and went into hiding after that. The police are looking for him and say he is "dangerous, aggressive and mentally unstable".

Those who had dealings with the motor-saw man now raise allegations against the police: "If the police had been serious and taken a closer look, people would not have come to harm this morning."

Therese Karrer, who often walks her dog in woods south of Schaffhausen, said she saw the suspect several times in the last few weeks.
"I talked to him a few times and walked by his car every day with our dog," said Karrer, who lives in the village of Uhwiesen.
Karrer said Wrousis showed up three or four weeks ago in the forest and chatted with her once when he was having breakfast behind his car.
"He may have been a little strange, but he wasn't unfriendly," she said. "I never felt threatened."

WHERE IS THE CHAINSAW ATTACKER FROM SCHAFFHAUSEN?

    FAZ.net
    http://www.faz.net/aktuell/gesellsc...schaffhausen-noch-nicht-gefasst-15121203.html

The police in Schaffhausen are searching for the chainsaw attacker with sniffer dogs. The 50-year-old Franz W. is being searched internationally, the police reported on Tuesday. Over night, nothing serious happened, it was said. The police still considers the offender to be dangerous. He may still be armed.

A spokesman for the Freiburg police department said on Tuesday morning that also on the German side possible sightings by the public may be investigated. "These are, however, only very sparse." According to the information center of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior, there is currently no evidence that the wanted man has crossed the border.

INTERNATIONAL ARREST WARRANT ISSUED FOR CHAINSAW ATTACKER

    Straitstimes.com
    http://www.straitstimes.com/world/e...national-arrest-warrant-for-chainsaw-attacker

Swiss police have issued an international arrest warrant after a man went on the rampage with a chainsaw in the northern border town of Schaffhausen, BBC reported on Tuesday (July 25).

They believe the suspect is still armed with the chainsaw.

"This is a dangerous and aggressive man," the chief of security in Schaffhausen, Mr Ravi Landoldt, was quoted by AFP as telling reporters. "This was not his first contact with police."

The suspect was convicted in 2014 and again in 2016 for weapons offences, police said.

Despite relatively low crime rates, Switzerland has one of the highest rates of firearm ownership in the world and police said it was likely that the suspect was carrying weapons.

The manhunt involving roughly 100 police officers is being carried out by Schaffhausen authorities and supported by forces from Zurich as well as Germany, police said.

CHAINSAW WAS RUNNING DURING THE ATTACK

    Blick.ch
    https://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/z...en-polizei-riegelt-altstadt-ab-id7038782.html

On Monday evening it was unclear if the chainsaw was running during the attack. Now it has become clear that Franz Wrousis had switched the chainsaw on: "In the meantime, the two employees of the insurance company were interviewed for the first time. The chainsaw was running," according to Peter Sticher, First Public Prosecutor of the canton of Schaffhausen.

Franz Wrousis has already been convicted twice of violations of the arms legislation. This is reported by Schaffauer's public prosecutor Peter Sticher to BLICK and the news agency SDA. Wrousis was sentenced to a fine, once of 20 days and once of 10 days.

The first conviction comes from the year 2014 in the canton of Bern: The 51-year-old carried a pistol in public without a permit several times and stored the weapon unsecured at home.

The second criminal record was in the canton of Lucerne in 2016. During a check the police found on him a so-called electric shock device.
