The death of Princess Diana

Today I realized she was only 36 when she died. William is 31.

I don't know why that stunned me but it did. She would be 52 today. And I bet a young fun grandma.

I was a Diana-bot too. What got me when she and Charles were engaged was his comment when a reporter asked about them 'being in love' (not exact). His response about 'whatever love is' let me know something was not right, but I had no idea about the other woman then, just thought he had been kind of forced by the queen to marry because of his age and her wanting an heir.

Always was buying magazines with articles about her (still have most of them plus some books written after her death). I loved the way she tried to branch out and reach the so-called common people. Diana did not have a very good relationship with her parents; her mother more or less deserted the family for another man and her father was distant. She seemed to always be looking for love and I think she really loved Charles and was very hurt by him. The day she took the hand of an HIV patient told me she was for real.

Her salvation was her children who she adored and they adored her in return. I'm so thankful she had a great relationship with them for both men to remember and cherish. I hope that William and Kate will make her memory a part of this new child's life also.

I remember when the accident happened, I was living away from home for work, and my husband called me at 5am to tell me so I would not hear about it and be upset on the job.

This little prince will always, to me, be Diana's grandchild.

I feel protective of William and Harry while I don't feel anything for the other royals other than an odd curiousity.

I'm glad William has Kate. They seem to be the real deal and this child will be adored.

Diana has much to be proud of and watch over.

I hope they call him Alex. There are far too many George's.

I just don't think much of either Charles or Camilla. Having an affair prior to his marriage was bad enough. On both their parts. She was a married woman and her husband was supposedly his friend. And I don't care what other kings and/or princes have done, I think this behavior was far less than honorable.

Then, for Charles to marry the young, naïve Diana and continue his affair up to and including being with Camilla on the night before the wedding AND calling her during their honeymoon, was just despicable.

It is obvious that after the marriage the two (Charles and Camilla) of them and their "circle of friends" who continued to provide them with meeting places began almost immediately to "gaslight" Diana. Yes, the girl was having problems. I wonder why?

I really feel sorry for the members of the Commonwealth in having to accept Charles as their future king and Camilla as their future "whatever".

I will also say that IMO one of the worst things the current queen ever did was to take the HRH designation away from Diana. She's obviously been a dutiful queen. But she's not perfect. And that action was one of her less than stellar moments.

My oldest daughter was born right after Diana had William. She was just a year older than me. I too had a very...(eventful) '80's. My little girl has grown up to be a wonderful mom, as sure that Wills will be a loving dad.

My baby grandson, our first,...I don't have words wonderful enough to describe the joy and love he brings to our lives. I am absolutely in love. I adore him!

I am sad that the royal baby will not have his adoring, full-of-excitement grandmom Diana to enrich his life.

Diana would have had no need to be zipping down the parkway, driven by Dodi's drunken driver if she had ever been treated decently by the rest of the royals. She had no real family in the royals. They never allowed her in and everything they did to her was purposefully cruel. What earthly person could endure such torment along with the constant public scrutiny and maintain complete sanity? Not me!

I don't believe any of that has changed. They just put on a good show for her boys and the public. Disgusting.

MOO

I've also thought about Diana today. I admired her....I watched her wedding. Followed her raising her sons, applauded her volunteer work, read books written about her. Prayed for her during her divorce and grieved when she died.

I just know she can see he grandson from heaven.

Does everyone remember the exact moment you learned of Diana's death? I was pulling a boat from a ramp when a friend said it in an offhand way. It stunned and saddened me. She just had that X factor.

Yes, I was visiting my parents, who happened to have the TV on. I had just walked into their family room from the garage as it was being announced. IIRC, my first thought was "Oh no! how old are her boys? They're too young to lose their mother."

I remember my mom and I getting up early here in Michigan to watch Diana and Charles' wedding as it was televised. I was about 13 years old and had never seen anything like it. It was all very exciting to see such a glamorous, historical event. And I thought her dress was sooooo beautiful... epitome of the 80s with those gigantic sleeves and all those elaborate details.

I wondered if Kate chose the polka-dot dress so that someday soon, there would be a dual photograph in the baby's nursery of Grandma Diana with his daddy, and his mommy with him. :)

If so, she's one smart cookie. Then again, I am the world's biggest sentimentalist, and stuff like that just gets me...right here. :D

We had just got back from a S.F Giants baseball game. That day
was the first time they played the Arizona Diamondbacks at home and we were given pins for that occasion.

Since we were listening to the after-game show ( all Baseball), we had no idea about the crash until we got home. I turned on my regular station and listened and so hoped she would pull through. When it was announced she had passed away my heart broke.

I have tons of Giants memorabilia and my Giants hat is covered with pins from over the years, but the pin I got that day strikes me every time I look at it. It reminds me of the day we lost Diana.

I was determined to finish sewing a costume for a play I was involved in. Saw the breaking news and watched tv until morning. None of it moved me more than watching those two boys walking with the men to the church for the funeral. Heartbreaking.

My friend and I stayed up all night to watch the funeral on the phone together. I taped it on a video cassette from my tv.

I agree the boys walking with Charles & Phillip behind her was the most touching.

Thanks, Elley Mae, very interesting. More from your link:

"The information we're told was passed to Scotland Yard quite recently through the Royal Military Police. It also includes, we understand, references to something known as Diana's diary......

"But it is taking the information seriously and it is considering and it is possible that a new investigation may open."

There were three possible scenarios put forward by MI6 to assassinate Milosevic, and the last sounds eerily similar to Diana's demise:

"Firstly, to train a Serbian paramilitary opposition group to carry out the assassination. This, Fishwick argued, had the advantage of deniability but the disadvantage that control of the operation would be low and the chances of success unpredictable.

Secondly, to use the small INCREMENT cell of SAS/SBS personnel, which is especially selected and trained to carry out operations exclusively for MI6/MI5, to send in a team that would assassinate the President with a bomb or by a sniper ambush. Fishwick said that this would be the most reliable option, but would be undeniable if the operation went wrong.

***Thirdly, to kill Milosevic in a road crash which would be staged during one of his visits to the international conferences on former Yugoslavia in Geneva. Fishwick suggested that a stun device could be used to dazzle the driver of Milosevic's car as it passed through one of Geneva's motorway tunnels.***"

Has anyone brought up here how The mi6 had developed a plan in assassinating Milosevic involving a car accident in which the driver was stunned in some way??

Princess Diana's crash caused by laser beam?

http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/diana crash caused by laser beam_06_02_2006

...New witnesses have told British detectives, leading a fresh enquiry into the fatal August 1997 accident, they saw a motorcyclist point a laser into the eyes of chauffeur HENRI PAUL, causing the Mercedes to crash inside the Pont De L'Alma tunnel in Paris, France.
One witness said he saw "an enormous radar-like flash of light", reports UK newspaper the Daily Express.

The new evidence supports theories Diana, Al Fayed and Paul were assassinated by the British Secret Service on behalf of the UK's royal family.

I don't remember this, about the laser of light.

I have always been a huge royal follower, and will never forget the sound of the hooves on the pavement at 4 a.m., when I got up to watch her funeral procession, and the horses were pulling her carriage.

I am not thrilled that all this is coming out now, when Prince William has just become a father.

I am, however, one who had never quite believed the accident theory.

Charles DID seem to go on happily ever after with the other woman.

I read an old 2003 interview with Piers Morgan today. A VERY interesting take on Diana's letter, theorizing her own death. Wow.

Either the driver was drugged or a light flashed bright enough from up
Ahead to stun/blind him. Maybe a mixture of both. The Milosevic plan (made before Diana's untimely demise) involved a strobe light that would flash bright enough from
The front of the motorcade to blind the driver. Furthermore the paparazzi flashing their bulbs would make it even more difficult for the driver to see/drive and would also help be a cover for the bright light that stunned him.

I think that might be where the lazer beam theory/rumor came from?

This makes me wonder: did they test him specifically for alcohol or just barbiturate intoxication? Was the test urine or blood?
