The Noah's Family Foundation, a not for profit corporation, has become the Max A. Shacknai Foundation.

Doesn't a corporation have to have more than a director?

I don't exactly get it. Usually you name a foundation after a person or child who has a similar affliction or situation/cause. This doesn't apply here to Jonah renaming the foundation. Maybe it's just me.

    I think a nonprofit does?

I find it odd he did this so soon ... I hate to think it had anything to do with publicity bringing in more dollars. Somebody smack me before I say he did it to look good.

Another PR move. He's certainly getting a lot for the money he's paying them. IMO

Yeah, and interesting that Resnick is connected both through this nonprofit and through representing him as a PR firm... or is just a friend as was presented in an early news article :waitasec:

Another observation... probably when the name was changed they were assuming Rebecca's death would be determined a tragic suicide. I doubt anyone assumed it would be gaining this much publicity and contested so publicly by the family. Now anytime someone searches Max's name, suspicions about Rebecca's death will come up.

Thanks ...I remember that post. I wonder how much Rebecca was able to integrate into this social circle and how close these others are to Dina. I remember an odd comment posted (perhaps by the book author) that Dina helped start one of those autism foundations, but the timeline is not right for that to be true? Makes one wonder where that info is coming from. I have to at least ponder whether some negative talk was taking place over the last 2 or 3 years concerning Rebecca. I don't think during a bad time, Max's accident, I'd want to be surrounded by Dr. Luber, Nina, Dina, Dina's boyfriend, Adam, Resnik, and Jonah if I were her. Too bad her family wasn't in the area for support and to look after her.

It's a common practice in Judaism to name a charity after a lost loved one. Little Leiby Kletzky had a foundation named after him, too. The charity need not be related to the person (for example, a cancer foundation can be named after a child who did not die of cancer). It merely exists to do good in that child's name, to bring a blessing to their remembrance instead of sorrow.

Jewish writer Herman Wouk (he wrote Marjorie Morningstar and The Caine Mutiny) named a foundation after his son, Abe, who died tragically.

This was initiated the day before they took Max off life support. The following day he had DL get Ocean out of the kennel. That is one cool customer. That would not have been what I was thinking about if I had just lost my beloved partner AND my youngest child. I would be a puddle on the floor. JMO.

It's part of Judaism. It was actually a courageous thing to do. It shows he was able to think of others during his time of grief, just like he and Dina did when they donated Max's organs to other children.

While I would hate to think that a charitable foundation named for your deceased son is PR....I would say that I think the timing is interesting....and to think that he had to think of his son's funeral arrangements, Rebecca his loving partner's funeral arrangements...and yet he had time to tie up the legalities of this foundation and getting a high powered PR firm. Hmmm..priorities.

Why would you think an act of Judaism is a PR move? Do you not realize you are insulting Judaism by insulting what is a common practice in the faith when you lose a child?

In no way should anything I have posted be twisted into an insult to Judaism. I just returned from celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles with my Spiritual family. You might be surprised to know that Mr. Shacknai's behavior was commented on several times by those coming to attend. It is the totality of JS's behavior and the timing of such that rings as ice within the soul. MOO.

I don't really see any problems with naming a charitable foundation after his son, Max. I think that it would help with the grieving process.

The question is where is Rebecca in all of this?
