The Verdict Waiting Room #2

Juror #1: OK everybody, it's pretty clear he did it and he meant to do it. Can we just wrap this thing up?
Juror #2: Yeah, I need to be gone by 4 today. Apparently Ridge and Taylor are getting back together on B&B.
Juror #3: What time's lunch again?
Juror #4: I hope there's some more of that cheesecake.
Juror #5: I don't know how many times I've told that bailiff I'm lactose intolerant.
Juror #6: I dunno, I was pretty convinced by the suicide theory. I've always wanted a boy.
Juror #7: No way! Boys are such hard work.
Juror #8: Maybe, but they totally adore their mothers.
Juror #9: Gem Dazzle is a REALLY GOOD GAME.
Juror #10: Did anyone go to the Reds game at the weekend? Are we even allowed?
Juror #11: Oh, come on! Let's get this show on the road.
Juror #12: Oh, bloody hell.
Juror #11: What?!
Juror #12: Stupid wifi just dropped out...again...

Chuckles it's most likely close to the truth lol

I, for one, am glad that the jury is taking such a long time. I believe it shows that the verdict will be a carefully considered decision.

Based on the tweeting of testimony during the trial, I am conflicted about a guilty verdict. I am not sure that I am quite at "beyond reasonable doubt." I feel like that the prosecution's argument in the end was basically that Gerard was infatuated enough with Toni that he could commit murder in order to be with her. I would send GBC down in a heartbeat if the prosecution had argued that the main motivation was financial. But the conference as a catalyst…Toni's volatility…wiping the slate clean...meh. Todd Fuller lost me there.

I realise this type of view is quite unpopular on this forum…truth be told I'm relieved that it seems at least one juror appears to be more or less on the same page.

Hi Minerva
We have to agree to disagree. Whilst you are entitled to your view, I have to dispute the basis on which you do so. I think a careful reading of the prosecution was that everything was brought into perspective and play (including the finances), TF was quite smart to argue the case on pressure building and documented fact , that was not effectively countered by the defence case and GBCs own testimony. The documented facts being, the affair had been reignited at GBCs request, the emails between GG and GM state categorically that he loved her and wanted to be with her on 1 July. These facts were further corroborated by other witness statements (Phil Broom amongst others) that GBC was looking for a car that could accommodate the blended family, and they were talking about housing arrangements. To that end GBC stated (in fact) 'leave things to me..' One day later, Allison was dead (fact as per autopsy report), she did not die a natural death, GBC was photographed by his sister on the 18th at the cross country at the girls school without scratches (fact), the morning of Allison's disappearance he had three large scratches (according to a number of doctors and expert witnesses not razor inflicted but fingernail scratches, matching Allison's fingernails), GBC had another number of bruises and other marks on his body (fact), Allison's blood was found in a two months old car in a highly improbable place, covered up by toys which weren't there the day before, Allison's hair had six varieties of leave matter in her hair all found at the Brookfield residence (fact) only two were found at Kholo Creek.

So except for GBC, NBC and the purple clan who kept saying how depressed Allison was, this was in fact not corroborated by expert witnesses and her own doctors, who stated categorically that she was not suicidal. So what is it to be? Who would say that Allison killed herself only on a story concocted by the inhabitants and genealogical associates of <modsnip>, not verified by anyone else and say GBC is not guilty OR let the facts speak for themselves and say it is murder with intent. TF knew exactly what he was doing.
All IMOO of course

The jury system is very interesting. Until it gets to the jury, there are police at all levels including highly trained investigators, forensics, experts in all areas of medicine, toxicology, hydrologists, botanists etc. Then the very well qualified lawyers on both sides, very experienced judge. Then after all that, it is left to 12 individuals of which little is known other than their age, sex, the suburb they did not live in or the fundraiser they did not attend. Their level of intelligence or mental health is unknown. They could be anywhere from reasonable, sensible and average intelligence to complete idiots with reasoning defects.

I am surprised that juries ever reach agreements and that most times they do seem to get it right. But somehow the system does seem to work on the whole.

I don't know anything, of course. I only feel that if that if all 12 were as convinced of GBC's guilt as the majority of posters on this forum are, that we would have already heard a "guilty" verdict. I am assuming that there is either a very strong foreman who will not allow voting until all the evidence presented has been reviewed, or there is a discussion taking place whereby some jurors believe GBC is guilty and some are not so sure.

I accept the wait is arduous, but that is just what it is. I will wait for any amount of time as I am convinced that based on the case there can only be one verdict.

If no verdict before 1pm, judge and jury will take a lunch break and recommence at 2:15pm #badenclay

Kate Kyriacou ‏@KateKyriacou 23s

We've got ten minutes before the jury will break for lunch. If no verdict by then, the judge won't take one until 2.15pm. #badenclay

Nah we will hang off for another 24hrs they are still talking about Ian Thorpe

My query is why was it necessary for pro witness TMcH to be escorted to court - no other witness was.

The #badenclay jury continues to deliberate. Justice Byrne will not take a verdict between 1 and 2pm. @7NewsBrisbane

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 1m
