Appellate Court Opinion:

State of Tennessee v. Letalvis Cobbins, et al. In Re: Gary Christian, et al.
E2013-02726-CCA-WR-CO
Petitioners, the parents of the victims in the underlying criminal cases, sought to intervene in those proceedings for the purpose of challenging the trial court’s order to seal portions of an investigative file of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation that was identified during the motions for new trial in the underlying cases. Because we conclude that Petitioners have no statutory or constitutional right to access the sealed confidential information in the file, we affirm the trial court’s denial of their request to unseal.

A state appellate court on Wednesday ruled that both the parents of two Knox County slaying victims and the public are barred from reviewing an investigative file on the ex-judge whose crimes led to new trials in the high-profile case.

The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals ruled that Tennessee Bureau of Investigation files have been given special protection from the state Open Records Act — even when such a file is entered as an exhibit in judicial proceedings that do fall under the act.

It did so, the court acknowledged, without any case law attesting to the soundness of its decision.

A state appeals court late Tuesday issued an opinion upholding the conviction and death sentence for the ringleader in one of Knoxville's most notorious crimes.

The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in a 91-page opinion rejected every argument advanced by Lemaricus Davidson, who was sentenced to die in the January 2007 torture killings of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.

The appellate court, in the opinion authored by Judge James Curwood Witt Jr., ruled there was ample evidence to support all of Davidson's myriad convictions for the carjacking, kidnapping, rape and slayings of the couple. The court rejected claims by Davidson's defense team of bad rulings before trial, legal mistakes during the trial and constitutional issues involving the law itself.

Ten years....... Hard to believe that it has been 10 years since these precious lives were snuffed out.

Eleven years after the torture killings of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, a Knox County grand jury has charged Eric Boyd, long suspected as the fifth participant in their deaths.

Judge sets Sept. 10 trial date for Eric Boyd

Boyd was booked into the Knox County Detention Facility on Tuesday and is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond.

It's been a long time coming. May justice be done. When the trial begins I look forward to conversing with all of you on this forum.

I just found out today that Eric Boyd was charged in the murders. I've followed this case since the beginning and throughout the trials and I hope to follow this trial as well.

This case is still the most horrendous murders I've ever followed since I've been following trials and I've followed trials for four decades.

Just in case there is additional information in this article.

Absolutely the most horrific case I’ve followed. My heart breaks for the parents of these kids and the continuing injustices they have to deal with. If this isn’t a textbook case for the death penalty then I don’t know what is.

yep, probably the worst case I have followed also. What a travesty for so many lives... the waves from these savage senseless murders have such far-reaching ripples...
