He understood the questions, answered them without hestitating, didn't sound the least bit confused by what was going on. His retort that he didn't "understand" the kidnapping charge obviously didn't mean he didn't understand it, just that he thinks it's unfair he's going to be held accountable for what he seems to think he was entitled to do. It's pretty telling he didn't make any statements to arresting officers. If he is delusional enough to genuinely think it was perfectly normal to snatch his niece and hide in the woods with her for 8 days, seems to me he would have been protesting up a storm as he got arrested, like--whoa!! Must be a big 'ole mistake somewhere! I was just taking her camping!! Silence, without a lawyer advising him, IMO reflects clear thinking and an understanding that what he did was wrong.
