GUILTY TN - Olivia Greenlee, 21, dies in staged suicide, Jackson, 12 Feb 2014

August 2015:

Pittman pleaded guilty to shooting Greenlee in her car in a parking lot on the edge of Union’s campus in North Jackson. She was killed on Feb. 11, 2014. Police said Pittman tried to make Greenlee’s death appear as a suicide and portrayed himself as a worried fiancé in the aftermath...

Other evidence pointing to Pittman included the state’s determination that Greenlee was shot from a distance of 8 to 10 inches, which, according to Pickens, is atypical for a suicide. Also, Greenlee’s blood was found on Pittman’s left shoe, which would be consistent with Pittman sitting in the car at the time of the murder.

August 2015:

Pittman’s attorney, George Googe, said the sentence is long, but it was expected.
“It is a lot of time to have to serve, but it’s a serious case and there’s a lot of evidence,” Googe said...

Pickens also said that in the last two weeks, Pittman sent a friend two letters, asking the friend to write The Jackson Sun a letter pretending to be the “real killer.” The Jackson Sun never received such a letter.

September 2015:

Charlie Pittman wants to withdraw his guilty plea in the killing of his fiancée Olivia Greenlee, and take his case to court...

Pittman, who is incarcerated at the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex in Pikeville, said in his handwritten motion that he “did not fully understand the plea and felt unjustly pressured by my attornies (sic) to accept the deal.”

The preliminary cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the head. A 9mm handgun, which police determined was stolen by Pittman from one of his roommates, was found in the car wedged between Greenlee’s seat and the center console. Police said that was one piece of evidence that led them to believe Greenlee’s gunshot wound wasn’t self-inflicted.

Investigator Ron Pugh testified during Pittman’s preliminary hearing in July 2015 that if Greenlee shot herself, the recoil of the gun wouldn’t put the gun between the seat and console.

Pugh also said Pittman tried to deceive police a second time by providing false and laundered evidence.
