I see where you went here, but I think it's reasonable to assume he was talking to girls he knew, who were trying to help navigate him.

Based on everything else we've learned, he was well liked, connected with family, had a new girlfriend, and even falling down inebriated, was a polite and affable young man.

For every accident abd any type of accident, there is a moment -- often a series of them -- that creates the event. Looking momentarily at one's phone while driving. Choosing suddenly to go this way and not that way.

So now we know that he knew he was lost and he was taking steps to get unlisted. If only he had just stopped. Waited. But he was walking within a city, people around, not terribly late. He didn't know he was moments away from catastrophe.

If he did indeed vomit, it makes sense he'd take his shirt off. Set it on the ledge. I don't care a good visual for the area but if he was talking on speaker phone, his phone could easily have been in his shirt pocket. With his CC. Sets his phone on the ledge. In taking the shirt off, the CC falls out. And bing bang boom his phone gets knocked off/over the edge. He leans over to save it, and top heavy, falls in. Alternately thinks he can retrieve it and dives in. Expensive phone. Wanted it back. If he were on a boat, wouldn't it be reasonable to jump in and grab your phone before it sinks or is carried away? Might explain just exactly how he got in the water. Intentionally. To save his phone. Only to be overtaken by the cold water and unforgiving current.

LE is doing an outstanding job piecing together his last minutes. And they'll get there. If he was on the phone, that will fill in some of the order of events. When did he vomit, where was he on his route, where was his shirt found if indeed that was his shirt.

His phone went virtually instantly silent in tandem with his position between cameras, the one capturing him moving forward and the one in which he never appeared. Either he and his phone landed in the water together or his phone went in first and he went in after. With the same tragic, deadly results.

Everyone around him will bear that woulda shoulda burden, any one thing happening differently and that catastrophic moment might have been averted. But that is the nature of accidents.

May it give his loved ones strength to see the lengths to which LE is going to bring their beloved boy home.

It’s also reasonable to believe he was talking to girls he just met.

Especially in since the family said they couldn’t confirm the last persons identity he spoke with.

Especially when their drinks are laced with GHB. Was Riley drugged? His friends think he was.

When they saw the footage they said it was completely out of character, he could barely walk at 9PM and only had 1 alcohol beverage at the bar he was kicked out of.
I wonder about the incident that got him escorted out. Trying to be helpful sounds like.

I don't think he was roofied because why. But this isn't outside the range of possibility, though a stretch. Perhaps someone else was about to be. If he took a sip of someone else's drink by accident. Just enough to weird him up. I just don't think it's necessary; alcohol alone suffices.

As much as we all wish we could rewind that night, is it so different than drunk driving? Happens all the time unfortunately. Impaired driver gets behind the wheel, and for every fatal drunk driving story, there is a drunk driver who operated the car well enough. Until he didn't. Riley was managing. He was upright, he was conversant, and probably died for being in the worst possible spot on his planet to throw up. Minutes earlier, he might have thrown up next to the cop who was responding to an unrelated call, and that cop might have taken him into custody or helped reconnect him with his friends.

A thousand ways he could have walked out of that night alive. If only.

Hopefully they'll come forward but LE no doubt has or will get his cellphone data. They may have details to help piece together the last movements before radio silence.

Imagine if he's turned around trying to figure out both where he is and how to get to where he wants to be, getting directions from people who might not know exactly where he is, from which to nail down the important starting point.

These stories hurt my heart. I so wish for them to be nothing but close calls. Where victims cheat fate and get home safely after all.

If only.

If only if he’s getting directions
I think he was getting directions from 2 girls he just met and being lured to a location where he could be abducted. The parents already said they can’t ID the last person he spoke with and the eyewitness couple at the crosswalk said he was on speakerphone with 2 women.

9:52PM: Body cam footage Officer Young
9:57PM: Last ping of phone within 100 yards of officer interaction

He vanished within 100 yards and 5 minutes of seeing the police officer.

Oh. Riley looks so much like him. It’s hard to see his parents’ faces.
Yes, you can clearly see Riley in the dad’s face, and his mom’s as well. He’s a perfect combination of both. :( So terrible that this couldn’t have had a positive outcome within the first 48 hours. I feel with both Riley’s case and Sebastian Rogers, both went very bad and I was [maybe naively] expecting both to turn out well.

Respectfully, I disagree. Please post a link with CCTV/video evidence of Riley accidentally falling into the river or entering the water. Did he throw his credit card onto the embankment mid-fall while going over the railing?

Very strange how hundreds upon hundreds of college aged males mysteriously vanish, only to be found dead in water from “accidental drowning” (See Austin, Chicago, Boston, NY, Wisconsin, MN, etc).

Keep in mind, of all the hundreds of drownings there’s NEVER BEEN ONE CASE with video/CCTV evidence showing proof the victims entered or accidentally fell into a body of water.

LITERALLY NOT ONE CASE HAS EVER PRODUCED VIDEO EVIDENCE OF ANY OF THE VICTIMS ENTERING OR ACCIDENTALLY FALLING INTO THE WATER - NOT ONE CASE.
I posted about Dakota Bingham in the last thread and there WAS video of him struggling to stay afloat in the Cumberland.

After listening to the 911 call again, and hearing the whispered, “down in the river,” I think the fraternity brothers know exactly what happened to Riley. Why are none of the Delta Chi brothers in Nashville helping look for him? It makes no sense.
That's just not true. It has been reported a few threads up they are assisting in the search. They are also college students who have classes.

I hope that they are helping. I have not read anything that says they are there. Just listening to that recording is very creepy to me.

Hardworking bar staff from the entire global community- Alabama to Zimbabwe, can all attest that drunks trying to be "helpful"- are almost always not helpful. This concept extends to "nice guy drunks" as well.

Where was it confirmed that he was talking to two girls on the phone? I didn’t see that detail.

Terrific post, Megnut, and most likely what occurred during his final moments. That phone was his lifeline and he would attempt to retrieve it all costs.

Chris Whiteid, Strain’s stepfather, and Chris Dingman, a friend acting as the family spokesman, revealed that Metro Nashville Police on Sunday showed them the last known video of the University of Missouri student from the night of his disappearance.

“We got to see him walking,” Whiteid told NewsNation in an interview that aired Thursday. “We got to see him kind of at a fast pace walk, almost a jog. And it just shortened the last known window of sightings anyways.”

Surveillance video showed Riley Strain jogging in the opposite direction of his hotel

*where in the heck could Riley be?

That’s a horrible image. At least if there were similar with Riley, it would be a conclusive piece of information.

No telling how many drinks he had in previous bars. Then factor in the possibility of "prepping" at the hotel before even going out.

In the end, Riley just does not seem like a good "roofing" target:

Male, thus lower risk of a sex crime motivation. Obvious college student, thus less chance of middle class level or more preferably to "roofing crews"- upper middle class cash, jewelry, purses, watches, debit cards etc. Not wearing say, "Dartmouth ware" or equivelent that could suggest an exception to the college student income norm.... .

*clap* Great post. Sadly, I think this makes complete sense.

I'm going with the family on this, they commented on his contact with the police officer, "that was Riley", that was how he was with people.
We all know he had drinks before going to the last bar.
