7/3/19 Update: Judge Cogan has denied El Chapo's request for a new trial. Ruling that media coverage likely had no impact on the El Chapo verdict because “a mountain range of evidence” showed he was guilty. Chapo will now be sentenced on July 17 at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, where he faces a mandatory sentence of life without parole. El Chapo's lawyer says the defense will appeal Judge Cogan's ruling.
7/5/19 Update: Federal prosecutors have filed a motion seeking $12 billion in asset forfeiture from El Chapo. To be precise, the government wants $12,666,191,704.00. 7/10/19 Update: Gov't asks Judge to sentence El Chapo to life imprisonment with another 30 years tacked on, plus restitution to victims. To avoid double jeopardy they suggest dropping three narcotics distribution counts.
