MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. -- Two pit bulls attacked and killed a cat in Merrit Island on Tuesday morning and the dogs were quarantined at a shelter in Titusville.

Deputies said the pit bulls fatally mauled the cat on Hortana Drive on Merritt Island.

The owner of the pit bulls, Michelle Wedel, was fined over $300.

Brevard County Animal Control’s board will decide if the dogs will be returned to the owner or not.
