The family of a missing man is back out searching for their loved one. Authorities called off the search for 20-year-old Antonio Villegas late Tuesday.

They are searching a large brushy area off Inspiration Road just south of Military Highway in Mission. Villegas made several 911 calls from that location, but those GPS coordinates may not be enough.

Police know exactly where Villegas was when he called 911. They searched that area for three days and only found his shirt. His parents are using those 911 calls and their faith as strength.

“With all the phone calls, nine phone calls or more, it's not enough. How come we haven't found my son,” says Antonio Villegas Sr.

Villegas Sr. doesn't understand. He says police were so close to finding his son.

“They have all this information. Why did they release the case when they just found his shirt?” says Villegas Sr.

Mission police ended their search for Villegas on Tuesday night. GPS coordinates led them to the exact area where Villegas frantically called 911.

Border Patrol Tells Family of Missing Man to Be Careful During Search

Border Patrol agents say volunteers searching for a missing Alton man need to be careful because the search for Antonio Villegas is entering dangerous territory.

The Villegas family set up their command center right next to the Rio Grande. Border Patrol agents say that area is filled with illegal immigrants and smugglers.

What? I admit I am no expert, but everything I have learned about cell phone pings here on WS has told me a missing person investigation is a time when you CAN and SHOULD ping a cell phone, no? Maybe just poor reporting?

Mother Continuing Search for Missing Son

Family members of a missing man from Alton say they won’t stop looking. Antonio Villegas was last seen three-and-a-half weeks ago in south Mission.

Janie Villegas, Antonio’s mother, says the family had to stop walking the brush in Mission. It's too dangerous. She's finding new ways to keep searching.

Mother Holds on to Hope of Finding Missing Son

Twenty-one-year-old Antonio Villegas went missing three months ago. His mother is still praying for a positive outcome.

    [snip]

Villegas says police are still actively investigating the case. She says Mission police have a list of persons of interest. She says Antonio may not be home for Thanksgiving, but he will be home someday.

Family continues search one year after disappearance

A valley family is still holding out hope of finding their missing loved one even though it's been a year since 20-year-old Antonio “Tony” Villegas Jr. disappeared.

His last call was to 911 stating he was being chased near Butterfly Park in south Mission on August 21, 2011.

Police found his truck in the area but have still yet to find Villegas.
