1 dead, 3 missing as Hays County bears the brunt of flooding
3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 | Filed in: Local

The Hays County cities of San Marcos and Wimberley were hardest hit early Sunday after torrential rain swelled the normally scenic Blanco River into a destructive wall of water.

At least one person has died as a result of the massive flooding, said Ken Bell, the emergency management coordinator for San Marcos. The man, whose name was not released, was discovered in San Marcos on Sunday afternoon, Bell said.

Separately, Hays County officials are searching for three missing Wimberley residents.

LIVE: Massive flooding in South Central Texas
Updated: Sunday, May 24 2015, 03:03 PM CDT

[...]
Some parts of Texas have seen up to 10 inches of rain in 24 hours, and the waters continue to overwhelm communities. Dozens of high-water rescues in Central Texas were reported overnight as the Blanco River and other swollen waterways breached their banks and residents early Sunday fled their homes.

The Blanco River swamped sections of Interstate 35 on Sunday, forcing parts of the busy north-south highway to close. The National Weather Service says the river crested Sunday at more than 40 feet; its flood stage is 13 feet.

About an hour after they arrived, one firefighter was believed to have stepped into rushing water, which swept him into a storm drain, according to fire officials.

The body of Claremore Firefighter Captain Jason Farley was found inside the storm drain around 1 a.m. Sunday, Fox23 reports.

Central Texas storms cause record rain, flooding in San Marcos, Hays County

"We're still very much in the rescue mode, with helicopters and swift water teams. There are still people on rooftops, as far as I know," said Laureen Chernow, a public information officer for Hays County.

"We know we've done at least 200 swift water rescues, all along the Blanco, primarily in Wimberley," she added.
During a news conference in San Marcos Ken Bell, emergency management coordinator for the city, confirmed that one person has died. He also said officials are actively searching for up to three other missing people.

Another 1-3" of rain expected across South Central Texas on Monday, with isolated amounts up to 5" possible. #txwx

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — The Trinity River was cresting near 40 feet Sunday afternoon.
The river hits “major flood” stage at 40 feet; anything over that could close bridges and cause major flooding. Nearby residents fear it could reach foundations of buildings near downtown Dallas.

This May marks the wettest May in Dallas history.

6:16pm CST UPDATE: CBS 11 is receiving reports of people entering the levee floodway on foot. Do not enter this area, it could be dangerous. The Office of Emergency Management tells CBS 11 they do not have the personnel to secure all 26 miles of riverbank in Dallas. Please stay away from dangerous areas around the Trinity River

OT but Bessie, your signature goes very well with these stories.
Hoping this crazy weather is over. Some places got more rain in one storm than we get in a year.

The one known fatality is still unidentified in Hays County. The firefighter that died in the floods posted above is Claremore, OK. This storm is huge.

There are numerous flash flood warnings for northeast TX and northwest LA, as well.

Our rivers are flooding and we are expected to have more heavy rain for the next 10 days.

"Oh, the water...oh, oh, the water- let it run all over me"

It is actually pretty scary.
