I would love to see a picture of the pendant he was wearing. Although, there is a typo ... It's called a scapular not scapula. They seem to be a type of religious pendant, mainly Catholic.

Brown Scapular

I believe the “two pieces of cloth connected by a fabric cord” and the brown scapular with “M” and heraldic emblem” are one and the same. I’ve attached a couple of photos of what I think they are describing... this is NOT what was found with the decedent and only my interpretation of the information!

I think you're spot on @MadMcGoo . I've found those washed up on the beach in Mexico - quite common apparently. I lived in the D/FW area around this time and at age ten or so already knew that Harry Hines Blvd was a rough area. The name came up on the news a lot and sometimes we'd drive nearby when going to the airport.

Scapulars are Catholic pendents in lieu of wearing a medal. At one time orders only had them but over the years laity wore them. I went to Catholic Academy's and I had them. I believe I got one when I made my communion from the school. They can be bought at a religious store or hand made. Brown represents 'the feast of the Scapular" usually Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She appeared to St. Simon Stock in Cambridge England. It basically represents the Blessed Virgin Mary. The UID was at an age and time when they were popular. Perhaps a close relative gave it to him.

I wouldn't read to much into it, other than he was Christian. It would not trace him back to a particular church school or a region. Now a days people wear gold crosses or medals that represent different saints around their necks.

Thank you both for the info! I didn’t figure it was a very telling clue...I was just trying to get an idea of what it was they were describing since no photos were attached. And “two pieces of cloth connected by brown fabric cord” actually peaked my curiosity more than anything until I realized what they were actually referring to. ;)

If you didn't post the photos I would never have put it together, we called them something else other than scapulars, the name escapes me. You did very good research on it. Thank you.

I can't help but wonder whether after Guillermo crossed the CA/Mex border he got a ride to Dallas to begin a new life in America. His missing date is 3 weeks prior to JD's recovery. There is a resemblance, especially the eye brows, but with the poor quality photo of Guillermo it's really hard to say, imo. Guillermo's height and weight don't match exactly, but we know how that sometimes goes. Also, I don't see a chipped tooth in his picture but I have no way of knowing when that pic was taken or when JD's tooth got chipped. This is an iffy one for me. Any thoughts?

Yeah, those brows. I see enough of a resemblance. The height and weight...meh...I’m not sure. The weight he could have lost. I guess it’s an iffy for me, but the resemblance is there. What could it hurt to submit?
