Austin Police Department solves cold case murder from 1979

The Austin Police Department has made a break in a cold case from 1979. 64-year-old Michael Anthony Galvan is accused of sexually assaulting and then murdering 18-year-old Debra Sue Reiding.

The incident occurred nearly 40 years ago on January 22, 1979.

He was positively linked to the crime after his DNA was found on a semen-stained robe Reiding was wearing when she was killed, KXAN-TV reported. The DNA test was performed last year.

If he raped and killed her in 1979 and was arrested for peeping in 1981 and spent 39 years living free in the Austin area - think he did this to anybody else?

I found him on a Texas site, but these aren't the charges on that page.

Anyone have better luck then me? I believe he's in Travis County.

He's scheduled in the 147th, so there might be more info there.

Defense called Wendy Radcliffe, who has been Michael Galvan’s girlfriend steadily for the last few years. She provided the defense with a receipt from Galvan’s checking account and a Chase bank statement. They were found in his belongings at her apartment.

Radcliffe has spoken with Galvan’s landlord after Galvan was arrested. She says he has lived in South Austin for the past decade and in the past 10 months Galvan has lived with her.

Prosecutors said that Galvan called Radcliffe and said he was surprised he hadn’t been arrested by the police. Radcliffe said that he just said he was expecting to be arrested. After his DNA was taken, they moved in together.
