I, too, think that it means the trial date was moved. There isn't any further information available, so we're having to assume!
For anyone following, Galvan was released awaiting trial on September 9, 2019. Case #: D-1-DC-18-900085 Free access to Travis county dockets: Online Case Information The new trial date is not available in the online docket, and it doesn't appear trial commenced 10/28/2019 as media reported. I believe the articles you posted are old as his new trial date is now 3/20/20. And since I can't access the link you gave for the county dockets - does it have the "next court date" on there? TIA! and txngal to WS & this thread!

Glad she was able to help, and yea I linked the website because hearing/trial date wasn't updated. Thank you also for the warm welcome! Still figuring out alerts and notifications.
Hey @txngal - I have lost my "go to" person SeesSeas on this case - so was wondering if you might be able to look up & see when his next court date might be? Happy New Year! TIA!
Hi Niner!! Sorry for my delay, I've been really busy at work! It looks like he's set for a hearing OR trial on 3/30/2020. He was also denied his motion for speedy trial...that's what happens when you murder someone and lie for years about it!!
Thanks a bunch @txngal ! Surprised there are no court hearings before his trial date. I do have 3/30/20 as his trial date, by the way! Thanks again!
I can not access this article - if someone can give a 10% synopsis - that would be great! TIA! In rare turn, Travis County prosecutors seek to dismiss murder case — but defense wants a trial In the short clip that I can read: Michael Galvan, charged with capital murder in the 1979 strangulation of Debra Reiding, could go to trial as early as June if a district court judge ... I have his trial starting on 3/30 - so going assume that was cancelled - ??
Hey Niner, 1. Prosecutors have concerns about evidence and want to dismiss case. 2. Due to coronavirus, criminal trials postponed until May 8. 3. Galvan's lawyer wants an acquital and wants to go to trial to close that door completely. I've been in Austin long enough to know that shaky or fumbled evidence from cold cases seems to be the rule not the exception.
[Judge] Urrutia did not agree to the dismissal and instead scheduled a hearing for March 23 to hear arguments from both sides. Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore said her office is preparing briefings ahead of the hearing but would not discuss the dismissal request. The postponement of trials in response to the coronavirus could end up benefiting prosecutors if it gives them time to salvage their case. Now, the earliest Galvan’s case will be tried is June 22, but it might not happen then either after prosecutors dropped a bombshell in Urrutia’s court on Thursday: They have concerns about the strength of their evidence and want to dismiss the case. This is out of order and likely adds to the confusion, but I am landing on June 22 at the earliest, if it happens. I think March 23 went out the window since Covid 19 arrived. Sounds like the judge wants to hear what both parties have to say.
@txngal - can I bother you to look up to see if the court hearing is still on for tomorrow 3/23? TIA!
Looks like it got moved to 6/15/20. Also, defense filed a motion to modify bond restrictions. Thanks a bunch @watergirl62 ! Much appreciated. Can I put you down on my notes as the person to "go to" for this case? TIA if you say yes!
Sorry, somehow I don't get alerts for these! Work has been crazy with everything going on, so I didn't log on! Thanks also to @watergirl62 for stepping in! Honestly, with all of the closures, I wouldn't hold my breath for even a June trial/hearing. There will certainly be a backlog for getting the DNA retested, as well as resetting this hearing.
