A Waco man who killed his wife's lover in front of his four children and later told his wife that he would have shot her had she not been holding their son was sentenced Thursday to 70 years in prison.

Jurors in Waco's 54th State District Court deliberated about an hour Thursday before rejecting Marvin Terrill Curry's claims that he acted in self-defense and convicting him of murder.

The jury of nine men and three women deliberated about 90 minutes before determining punishment for Curry, who admitted that he shot Dwayne Mortimer Harris Oct. 12, 2004, as Harris brought Curry's wife and four children home from the Heart O' Texas Fair.

As Judge George Allen read the verdict, Mischele Curry, Curry's wife, screamed and ran from the courtroom. Mischele Curry testified during the four-day trial that she has had at least four affairs during their 20-year relationship, including one at the time with the 25-year-old Harris, an animal control officer for the city of Lacy-Lakeview who dreamed of becoming a police officer.
