PAYNE SPRINGS, TEXAS - A 29-year-old mother has been arrested in connection to the shooting deaths of her two daughters, ages 5 and 7, at a home outside of Payne Springs, according to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.


Sarah Nicole Henderson, of Mabank, was charged with two counts of capital murder and is being held without bond.

Interview with neighbor

Jaylyne Palmer, who lives across the street from the Henderson’s home, says she witnessed the mother mistreating her kids in the past.

“You could hear her all over the neighborhood yelling at the kids you know terrible language,” says Palmer. “I felt sorry for the kids because she talked really terrible to the kids, I didn’t think she did anything to them but, evidently I guess I was wrong.”

Sheriff’s Office said they were first contacted Wednesday night about a suicidal woman at the residence near Payner Springs.

Sarah Nicole Henderson, a man and her children lived at the home.

When officers arrived at the house, a man and woman turned them away saying everything was fine.

Three hours later, a man called 911 again and reported that a woman gunned down two kids at the same house.

Deputies returned to the scene and found Henderson’s daughters shot dead. They were identified as KayLee Danielle, 7, and Kenlie, 5.

Jessie Stewart's daughter, Nadia, was Kaylee and Kenlie's best friend.

"We liked to ride bikes together. We liked to paint," Nadia recalled. "We liked to color and we liked to... draw pictures."

"They were beautiful little girls inside and out," Jessie said. "They would always come to my house."

Husband's (2nd) 911 call released

Three hours later there was a 911 call from the same house. Jacob Henderson crying uncontrollably and told the dispatcher, “My wife, my wife just shot her kids.” In the background of the call a woman can be heard saying, “What did I do?”

Jacob Henderson said he was asleep when the shootings happened and that their bodies were in the living room. The female voice in the background can be heard saying, “God forgive me please. Why did I do that babe? What did I do God?”

That 911 call was just heartbreaking, I’m in tears listening to it. I couldn’t make out if she told him why, but he kept asking her. I did hear her say “I can’t stop” and he said “stop what?” And I couldn’t hear her response. Just so awful. How can you look at your own babies sleeping and they look so innocent asleep and sweet and shoot them????? Why???

This is kind of in contrast to the 911 call, isn't it? During the call she seems to be expressing disbelief in what she had just done, and regretting it instantly. It sounded like she had a mental breakdown of some sort that led to this horrible deed. I felt rather sorry for this woman. What a reality she will have to live with now for the rest of her life. Awful.

The husband is not the father of the girls? He says "my wife just shot her kids".

I found it brave that he didn't run out of the house - he could have been next!

According to the People article the gun malfunctioned, he took it and that's when she told him she shot the kids.
He was married to the mother, but was not the girls father.

“The pistol misfired and that’s when he was able to take the pistol away from her and call law enforcement,” the sheriff said.

He said Sarah Henderson had been planning the shooting for at least two weeks and that the motive was still under investigation.

“We haven’t seen any sign of remorse right now,” he told the station.
