Is that address associated with this LK or just a LK you found in NV? Do you have a link? Not trying to be snarking, just trying to acertain there are not more than one since the name is a very common name.

ETA: if you look at the building on Google~~I just can't see a high profile person living there. : (

I don't know. The address posted was as of 1989 so having a good job in 1999 doesn't necessarily preclude living at a not so great address in 1989, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are definitely the same person.

If she worked as a hotel casino cleaning worker, housekeeper or any job in a hotel with gaming machines in Nevada she would need a work card from the local police, sometimes referred to as work card, sheriff card, or police card. There are two types. Gaming which is anyone involved in casino games and slots, or non gaming which is everyone else. She would be on file. I lived and worked in Nevada so I know. It does involve a police background check. I am not sure if they are involved in non gaming establishments. At the time I worked there, which would have been in the 80's and 90's, I do not remember if we provided any finger prints. It is one of my thoughts about whether FLEK's prints have been run against non criminal databases like California DL, NV work cards, or professional licensing data bases.

Thought I would throw this out here. I don't think it helps us much, but you never know. The P.O. Box 810, Dallas, TX was registered to United American Insurance Company in 1996. See pictures below. Generally when forms are revised, there is a revision date that is included at the bottom of the form. On UAIC's form the revision date is 3-96, so you can be pretty confident that UAIC had that P.O. Box in 1996.

The Colorado number on the note was the number for a law firm that specialized in insurance fraud.

Like if someone "died" and insurance was paid out, but then they were discovered to be alive kind of fraud?

Well then it maybe helpful! I remember looking that guy up~~but I don't remember him handling insurance fraud. :shame:

I thought the Colorado lawyers were securities fraud experts. I am still of the opinion, FLEK did not write those notes except for maybe the "these eyes" one.

I visit YouTube off & on, mostly to look at fringe & exotic topic (e.g. "Top 10 mysterious deaths, "10 most hated actors") or music videos (yes, I remember well when MTV played music). And when I looked in on YouTube this morning, I was surprised to find a picture of Lori Erica Ruff tagging a video named "5 People whose lives were shrouded in Mystery & Secrecy". (Link is www youtube com/watch?v=I_7kac7KKTI -- link munged so you aren't forced to watch the video.) It had been posted the day before & already had 214K hits. (Other individuals mentioned in this video are the Isdal Woman, the Woman of the Seine, the "Huntington Beach Jane Doe" -- the first I heard of this case -- & D.B./Dan Cooper. I'm amazed that the Somerton Man wasn't included, which IMHO is one of the most mysterious identity cases, even more mysterious than this one.)

So this case is getting some fresh publicity.

Not much new info presented, & some of it wrong. The creator claimed that LEK took college classes as BST then changed her name -- which is wrong. And that although she took these classes & received her degree, no one remembers her -- which is wrong too: there are a few people who have come forth to say they remember her before her marriage, but not very many. He only mentions two of theories who she was: that she might have been a spy -- probably the least possible theory about her past -- & that had changed her name to flee an abusive partner. And no explicit mention this is an open case with the SSA.

The new information includes a pic of Blake I've never seen before, & a pic of a woman I've never seen before that is apparently LEK. And the narrator pronounces LEK's middle name differently than I thought it was (he pronounces it Er-ee-kah, where I thought it was pronounced as "eric" with "ah" tacked to the end of her name).

Maybe some new information will be shaken loose by this Youtube video.

Wonder why Rachel Garden appeared at the end of the video? She's like 5'1 and missing from NH.

Just watched the LEK part of that youtube video. Woah with regards to that picture. Do you think that is one of LEK's pictures or was that a mistake too, like the one about her taking college classes as BST? Anyway, I took a screen shot of that picture. Hope it comes through here:

That is not FLEK. that is one of the missing girls who people have speculated COULD be her.

FLEK's PO Box 810 was in Euless, not Dallas.

She looks so much like FLEK but the height rules her out without a doubt (MOO). I thought perhaps a a typo on her height was possible but it's pretty clear she was a short and tiny girl. The store owner who sold Rachel Garden her last cigarettes and gum even remembered how she was barely 5 foot tall. I can see how people could think she was Lori with the facial resemblance though...and even enough to put the picture on a youtube video about FLEK.

There is a picture of FLEK's fingerprints in the media thread. IIRC, they were run against CODIS and provided no hits. I don't know if they checked other fingerprint databases. I'm just now wondering though how LE got her fingerprints in the first place? Do undertakers routinely fingerprint a deceased when no criminal investigation is going on? We were told it was a clear case of suicide and she was cremated before they realized she was not really LEK. So why did they take fingerprints? Was it hard to ID her because of the gunshot to the head?

I think I read someone brought this person up before. Susan Smalley. Again her height is 5'8". Kind of in the range, but she was 18 when she disappeared, so doubt she would grow more. FLEK seemed to be every bit of 5'10" in some of the pics. I still think Susan looks quite like FLEK. Just not sure if she disappeared voluntarily she would have returned to texas as FLEK a few months later. It is amazing and sad how many young women have gone missing. The lists are huge. Then there are some, most likely, like FLEK, nobody is looking for. But maybe the people who were looking for FLEK gave up before all the organizations and the web became available. Maybe in some file cabinet in some small town police department, is her missing person report.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/smalley_susan.html

Susan's case just seems too close if space and time to be FLEK, IMO. Susan went missing with a friend in March 1988. The first photo we have of FLEK is from June, 1988. That's not much time to change your appearance drastically. FLEK appears to have her hair pulled into a messy ponytail but Susan's hair style was short layers that would not have allowed for a ponytail, IMO. FLEK's bangs are shorter and her hair much darker. Her face is similar but not as close as I would expect if someone just cut her bangs and dyed her hair darker brown. Then there are the location logistics. How would she manage to live in Dallas--so close to her home town--for all those years and never get recognized? There were people looking for her and her friend right away. They found her car in Dallas, so LE in Dallas would have had her on their radar as well. The guy who told his girlfriend he killed them and then recanted, moved away and changed his name gives me a bad feeling. I don't think Susan was FLEK, sorry. JMO.

When there is doubt, fingerprints are collected to match to the weapon. You make a good point that the gunshot was so destructive that she could not be identified as well. The fact that she used a gun to take her life has always bothered me because women do not tend to take their lives in such a destructive way. In Texas, it would not be the undertakers but the medical examiner. Suicide is covered in the Texas Penal Code and this is why the law is called in to play. Recently, a husband was cleared of all wrongdoing in the suicide of his wife even though it was proven that he aided her, most likely providing her with the gun. So it is an investigation until all parties are cleared.

According to the process for changing your name in Texas, currently one step is for the authorities to take your fingerprints; I don't know if that part of the procedure in 1988, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were. (The idea is to provide some protection against escaping being caught for a crime.)

If not that, isn't one of the steps in obtaining a background check for a handgun being fingerprinted. (I know, I know, this is Texas & everyone has a gun, but I understand the authorities down there still want some control over who buys firearms, so they might do that to verify a purchaser is not a wanted felon who happened to pick the most stupid way to get a weapon.)

Otherwise, I don't know.
