A former nurse with a long criminal history received a 99-year prison sentence Friday for killing a former patient with a fatal dose of insulin.

A 12-member jury took 35 minutes to sentence Jeanine Hannah, 55, after convicting her Wednesday with the murder of 68-year-old Margaret Bradley of McAllen on May 29, 2002.

Jurors listened to several witnesses regarding Hannah’s criminal past, and reviewed court judgments finding her guilty of felonies in Wisconsin, California and Oregon dating back to 1970. Hannah used the names Jeanine Marie Iding when convicted of forgery in Wisconsin, Jeanine Marie Wainwright when convicted of forgery in California, and Jeanine Miata in Oregon, where she was found guilty of theft.

A former home health care worker convicted of murdering an elderly patient in Texas is suspected in the death of one of her Oregon patients, investigators say.

Jeanine Hannah, 55, was convicted last month in Edinburg of murdering a 68-year-old Texas woman with a lethal dose of insulin.

Also known as Jeannie M. Miata, she is now under investigation by Beaverton police for a suspicious death in 2000 at a long-term care center. Police are also checking other deaths at nursing homes or care centers.

"We are going to be looking at other locations and identify other patients that would be of concern," Beaverton police Detective Dan Kelly told The Oregonian last week.

The newspaper, which has tracked Miata's career, said she worked in nursing jobs in Gresham, Hillsboro, Portland, Beaverton and Oregon City over 25 years in the state.
