Sheriff Salazar says he hasn't closed the case because some questions are still unanswered. And there are several persons of interest they have not spoken to again.

There is also new information that may show Olsen was getting ready for a new life with her girls right before their tragic deaths. Fox San Antonio has obtained an email sent to Olsen the day she's believed to have died. It's from the Grand at the Dominion Apartments just 6 miles from Wheeler's home.

She had toured the apartments, according to her family on December 31st, 2018.

The email in part said they were reaching out to "see how her apartment search was going" It also stated, "I have the 3 bedroom Fredericksburg floor plan available that you loved for your move-in time frame."

Several sources close to the investigation told Fox San Antonio that Nichol Olsen’s phone records show the mother made five calls just after 11 p.m. on the night of the incident.

Asked for examples of lingering questions, Salazar said he is bothered by text messages that Olsen exchanged with other people — not Wheeler — moments before the shootings are believed to have occurred.

The people who texted with Olsen remain persons of interest in the case, the sheriff said. He did not identify them or reveal the contents of the messages.
Investigators recovered security camera footage, GPS evidence and cellphone records showing that Wheeler left the house before the shootings, Salazar said.

“During those minutes before we believed the shootings happened, there’s text messages occurring between him and one of the little girls,” Salazar said. “While that text message was sent to whoever was in the house texting — probably one of the little girls — he was 30 miles away, he was 40 miles away. He was moving toward Fredericksburg, where we know he spent the night.

“We’ve got evidence that he just wasn’t there during that time.”

37 yr old Nicole Olsen's 31 yr old partner was stated by Sheriff Salazar to have physically been 30-40 miles away at the time of the shootings, having left the house after an argument over an unknown topic with Nicole Olsen.

Sheriff Salazar refused to close the case due to questions he had, some involving communications believed to have been made (texts) immediately preceding the shootings--

Nobody alive seems to be talking much.
