One news article says (snipped) that "she went missing on her twentieth birthday. Shawtyeria Waites was last seen July 25 at approximately 8 a.m. outside an apartment complex located in the 8900 block of Chimney Rock Road." But another says she "was last seen about 10 p.m. Tuesday".

So which is correct? Just wondering if there were 2 different accounts of time she went missing (though probably just typo or something.)

Shawtyeria Waites was last seen July 25 at approximately 8 a.m. outside an apartment complex located in the 8900 block of Chimney Rock Road. She was wearing a pink dress and pink sandals.

Friends told Waites’ family that they dropped Waites off at the apartment complex before going to a nearby store to buy makeup. When they returned to the complex, they could not find Waites. The trio had planned to celebrate Waites’ 20th birthday that night.

Have you seen Shawtyeria? Family frantic to find woman who went missing while celebrating her 20th birthday

This doesn’t sound good; scary for sure!
(UPDATED)
Community activist Quanell X is asking for the public’s help in the search for Shawtyeria Waites who was last seen on July 25 at approximately 8 a.m. outside an apartment complex located in the 8900 block of Chimney Rock Road.

The family, joined by Quanell X, held a press conference Sunday to discuss Waites’ disappearance.

Quanell X said the woman met a man at a club and that the man invited them to the apartment complex in southwest Houston.

Friends told Waites’ family that they dropped Waites off at the apartment complex before going to a nearby store to buy makeup. When they returned to the complex, they could not find Waites.

The friends called Waites’ cell phone multiple times. At some point, the calls began going directly to voicemail.

Quanell X said the apartment Waites believed to have visited was vacant and no one lived there.

From the article linked above:
Quanell X said he believes Waites was met with foul play and that the man they met at the club never had any friendly intentions.

“This is not to disparage anyone, but the young girls had been dancing at a nightclub, and they thought that they might want to come here and make a few extra dollars. It was a trick and a setup. They came and only one went in,” Quanell X said.

(Also UPDATED)
According to Quanell, Waites was with two other young girls that night.

Those two women shared details of that night with Quanell.

They said they had all met a man while at the club earlier that night. That man then invited them to an apartment complex after the club, Quanell said.

Witnesses told Quanell they remember seeing Waites enter the apartment complex, but have no recollection of what door she knocked on. Meanwhile the other two women had gone to a store down the street.

"This is not to disparage anyone, but the young girls had been dancing at a nightclub, and they thought that they might want to come here and make a few extra dollars," Quanell said during a press conference Sunday afternoon. "[The man] had large sums of money on him and was spending large sums of money at the strip club."

The two women said that when they came back from the store, they called Waites' phone but there was no answer. Shortly after, her phone was cut off completely, Quanell said.

Who buys makeup randomly at that time of night? Seems off. And why just leave your friend at some strangers house alone even if she was there to make some side cash?
Yeah, why not go to the store together and then go party with the guy?
How did they know which apartment complex? Did they follow this guy there?
Use maps on their phone?

Search underway for SW Houston woman who went missing before birthday celebration

I edited the title to the 25 or 27 because of conflicting reports (25=Sunday, 27=Tuesday).

So just thinking out loud here.
Is it possible they went to buy something besides make up? It sounds so very strange.
Also you drop your friend off on her own, then leave? Can't be such good friends.
I don't do clubs, is it usual to go to strip clubs for your birthday? I thought it would be a regular club, but what do I know.

Did they go out on the 27th? On a Tuesday night? Wonder why not go out on Saturday night (24th) for birthday on the 25th.
Tuesday night is usually a slow night? Plus having to go to work?
You can’t dance at a strip club, I’d rather go to a dance club. Plus you’re competing with the dancers for a guys attention. Unless one of her friends worked at the club they went to and they got free drinks?

All of this is MOO

No judgement at all, I really think that more missing persons cases should be more transparent. It would really help if people stop putting so much weight on judgement when someone is in extreme need of help. Those are usually the facts that will get the answers!

It sounds like they dance/promote or work at a strip club, and work extremely late (early the next day) perhaps some clientele is looking to party after hours and if they pay well it might feel really worth it at the time. Maybe he had wanted just her company which might be common?

They were going out to celebrate her bday like 14 hours later and maybe they go through lots of makeup with that kind of job?

I hope they’re able to identify him… sounds nefarious off the bat with the vacant apt like luring or lying in wait :(
