A man has died and three people have been injured in a series of shootings around Skye.
Police Scotland were initially called to a report of a 32-year-old woman being injured at a property in Tarskavaig, on Skye, shortly before 09:00.
Officers were then called to an incident about eight miles away (13km) in Teangue at about 09:30.
Police said a gun was fired and a 47-year-old man died at the scene.
Officers were later called to an incident in Dornie, near Kyle of Lochalsh on the Scottish mainland, where a gun was also fired.
A man was seriously injured and taken to hospital in Inverness, while a woman was taken to hospital on Skye.
Police said the incidents were linked and a 39-year-old man had been arrested. He has also been taken to hospital.
The rescue operation saw multiple ambulances, air ambulances and special rapid retrieval emergency teams, which are only summoned for incidents in rural locations when people are in critical need of medical attention.

four victims of a gunman's deadly rampage have today been pictured as it emerged a father-of-four who was shot dead had been trying to save others by preventing his attacker from getting hold of a gun.

John MacKinnon, 47, was named locally as the victim of yesterday's horrific shooting - in which a further three people were injured before police Tasered and arrested the suspect.

Wednesday's horror began when the first victim, named locally as Mr MacKinnon's sister, Rowena MacDonald was stabbed at a property in the village of Tarskavaig at around 9am.

Following the incident in Teangue, the gunman then drove about an hour away to Dornie in Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland before launching an attack on two locals named as osteopath John D Mackenzie and mental health nurse wife Fay.

Mrs MacDonald was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries, while Mr and Mrs MacKenzie were rushed to Raigmore Hospital and Broadford Hospitals respectively.

39-year-old man, who was a registered firearms holder, was arrested yesterday in connection with the three linked incidents and has since been charged.

The suspect targeted four victims in a trail of destruction from the popular holiday island to Ross-shire.

The spree started at 9am yesterday when 32-year-old hotel worker Rowena was stabbed at a home in the Skye village of Tarskavaig.

Seven miles away in the fishing village of Teangue, on the Sleat peninsula, Mr MacKinnon was reportedly killed after being blasted by a shotgun while trying to wrestle the firearm off the attacker.

Is there a thread for this?

What are everyone's thoughts? Sounds domestic obviously, was first victim stabbed the girlfriend, man shot and killed possibly someone she was having an affair with? But the other two....? One of the persons involved parents? MOO

Edited to add - just read the article, the person deceased, his sister in law was first person stabbed! Confused

I am veering towards a mental health issue. Maybe his sister took his gun from him for safe keeping and he went to her house to get it back. He might have had a grudge against the other couple, the woman did work as a mental health nurse.

According to this article from earlier today the husband of the first victim has been arrested. Imo this tragedy involves members of one family, as in wife then brother in law then parent and partner. It is too horrible to contemplate.

"Rowena MacDonald's husband Finlay, 39, was arrested in connection with the incidents on Wednesday before he was taken to Raigmore Hospital.

Mr McDonald has since been charged in connection with Mr MacKinnon’s murder and the attempted murders of the three others who were injured. He is expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow, Friday, August 12."

From my understanding Rowena MacDonald was married to Finlay MacDonald
John MacKinnon was married to Lynne Anne MacKinnon
Lynne Anne and Finlay were siblings
Rowena and John were siblings
So a brother and sister married a sister and brother
The media have not given a connection to the older couple as yet

At the preliminary hearing in Glasgow, Lord Fairley set a trial date for 14 May 2024 at the same court.

A further preliminary hearing date was set for 12 December.
