April Jones: abduction triggers child rescue alert
The abduction of April Jones triggered the first nationwide child rescue alert ever used in the UK as investigators weighed up the risk to the child in the hours after her disappearance.
Late into Monday experts from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection unit, (Ceop) liaising with Dyfed-Powys police were engaged in the difficult decision of whether to initiate the high profile national alert to help in the hunt for the missing five-year-old.
A tactic long used in America, the child rescue alert has never been used across the country like this before, partly because suspected stranger abductions are rare.

I'm sick with fear: April's sister begs abductor to come clean about whereabouts as it's revealed their father can't help with the hunt because his eyesight is failing
The mounting desperation engulfing April Jones’s family was laid bare yesterday by the missing girl’s elder sister.

In an emotional intervention, 16-year-old Jazmin Jones urged April’s abductor to come clean about her whereabouts.

‘Knowing April still isn’t found is making me sick and knowing someone knows something but won’t say it makes me feel even worse,’ she said. ‘I just want our beautiful princess home now – it’s been too long.’

April Jones search goes on as volunteers defy police advice
The police had – very politely – requested members of the public not to join the search for April Jones. But residents of Machynlleth and the surrounding areas were having none of it.
By lunchtime hundreds of people, many of whom had taken the day off work or been given leave, had defied the police and were out in the hills, valleys and forests around the town in mid-Wales.

Villagers shaken from 'quiet life' amid search for missing girl
Residents in the Welsh village where abduction suspect Mark Bridger lived for the last month believe missing April Jones has never been there.
Police forensic teams are continuing their minute examination of the farmhouse where Mr Bridger has lived since early September.
Expert searchers with long batons were slowly and methodically walking in the garden and land around the house prodding the ground.
Outside, officers stood guard at the entrance to the property but activity appeared to be continuing inside.
The village of Ceinws is home to about 80 mostly-retired residents who have come in search of a “quiet life”.
