    Claudia Lawrence investigation
    http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/13147

It is now six years since Claudia Lawrence disappeared without trace in York. Despite the intensive efforts of the police, the resolve of her heart-broken family and saturated media coverage, her sudden disappearance remains a mystery.

North Yorkshire Police's commitment and determination to solve the case and bring closure for Claudia's loved-ones, is undiminished by the passage of time.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, head of the force's enhanced Major Crime Unit, is leading a comprehensive review of the original investigation.

This has been supported by national experts from other forces and agencies, including forensic specialists who recently completed a re-examination of Claudia's home on Heworth Road in York.

As a result of this work, Det Supt Malyn and his team have identified new lines of enquiry and fresh public appeals to pursue, as well as renewed appeals on previous key items of interest to the investigation.

Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Mason, Head of Crime for North Yorkshire Police, said: "The decision to focus and prioritise the efforts of the enhanced Major Crime Unit on this case and undertake a comprehensive review of the original investigation, is producing progressive results which we expect to continue over time."

If the policeman malyn thinks she came to harm overnight then the cctv that was operating from the house a cross the street cannot possibly show her leaving in the morning, the same as the cctv further along her route to work, the house cctv would also I presume show anyone picking her up or entering the house through the front door, thus I believe she must have left through the back door, either to get into a car maybe in the nags head car park, or her body was removed and placed in a waiting car nearer the back door, as her work clothes and hair straighteners went missing I think she was alive when she left the house, I can understand someone taking the phone as it could be incriminating, but why would you want the rucksack etc, unless she took the rucksack, chef clothes and straighteners with her as she left via the back door, maybe the driver said leave through the back way as my wife, girlfriend might not be too happy with me picking you up and it is less potential hassle for me to meet you in the car park rather than outside your house

Yes car park but why use the back door ?
Did she notice anyone hanging around she wanted to avoid ?
Is the back door alleyway well light?
Did cl ever used the back door ?
As I understand it the cctv in the opposite house was pointed at their own front garden to deter garden thieves .

The back door because of lack of cctv coverage there, also how would they know how far any cctv accross the road would cover, if this is correct, then knowing the nags head cctv wasn't working and having knowledge of cctv in house opposite, must make you a local, no other explanation for it for me

I simply do not believe anyone could get that lucky without intimate local knowledge

It is fustrating I am intrigued by this case and try to keep an open mind on evidence and theories put forward. Like everyone else I am trying find the evidence of the true events that led up to to Claudia's disappearance and this is where things get complicated because we are presented by some things that may appear to be linked to this case but in fact are not we are lead to think they have a link because its how they are being presented to us. I am trying to eliminate these leads what have been presented to the public and concentrate on what is fact and work from there.
For the time being I have put aside:-
    1. The cctv of the 4 people in the street as the behaviour shown could be linked to drug activity.
    2. I have also put aside the car braking as this also could be someone collecting their fix or someone /something like a pet crossing the road. (Im fustrated there is no evidence that this car was picked up by cctv (on buildings or on public transport) in the areas of Heworth and York when continuing its journey)
There is some debate that the sightings of the women and male on Melrose bridge and the women and male seen seemingly arguing beside a vehicle near the University were in fact sighting made falsely to mislead the investigation. I am on the fence with this theory as it could work both ways the information could be spot on and someone is trying to throw the ivestigation off theses leads.
I find the possible sighting of the backpack very interesting. The call of the sighting was made anonymously ....Why? is it a failing on the call handler to ascertain the callers identity or did the caller decline to give it or cut the call short only giving minimum information. I would also like to know if the caller was male or female and wether the call handler could approximate the age of the caller. The time of the call is important If the route the backpack was supposidly spotted on was a route to the University and Claudia was expected to arrive at work for 6.00am its not unreasonable to think that other people used that route to the University too (did anyone else see the backpack but ignored it as a disgarded item) people who used this route on the morning of that day and the times are important. More importantly did anyone see that backpack in that spot before that moning?I would like know answers to these questions because the backpack has never been recovered we dont know if it was actually Claudias backpack or indeed if there was backpack at all.

    You’re implying premeditation.
If cl choose to use the back door that morning was provably to avoid the man outside her door seen (also) by the cyclist.
IMO even a local would not know about the cctv opposite because it was inside the window!

I am confused about the seen backpack.i believe the person told NH people about it.
If this happened on 19 th Cl name would not have occurred to anyone because she was not missed till the following day.

Maybe didn't have much say when she went through the back door, and the owner of the house opposite could have told anyone about the cctv maybe they got a nags head patron to fit and set it up for them

Some really great observations! I would also love to know if the tip re the backpack was male/female and approx age, good catch!

I can't personally put aside the CCTV, with the police still using it on their site and still asking for info re who the person is, I think they have more than we've been shown and this could be a key piece of evidence. I Could be wrong tho and it makes sense that a drug dealer wouldn't come forward, but wouldn't a member of the public who recognised him, name him to the police? and I'd hope that the police have checked previous days/weeks and if this was a normal occurrence or not.

Saying that I don't see all the extra people that lots of other sleuthers do see on the CCTV, the person in red, the blonde woman etc. No matter how many times I view the CCTV I don't see these other people. I also don't think the light man in the evening footage is the same light man in the morning footage. The man in the evening footage looks older, smaller and more portly to me. Also the light coloured jacket looks longer and more like something an older man would wear in the evening footage and shorter and more modern in the morning footage.

I've not made a conclusion one way or the other with this case and I think that's what keeps me intrigued. I'm open to most possibilities, and my mind constantly changes! I do feel she either planned to stay somewhere else on the 18th and something became of her away from home, or she accepted a lift and was killed by whoever that was. I just can't see someone having the presence of mind to take her rucksack with her chefs whites in the heat of the moment after just killing someone. MOO

By luck do you mean by some vehicle obstructing the private cctv just at the right time cl leaves and turns right outside her house?
Then she had an ( according to MajorLang ) 17 minute walk plenty of possible pick up points before cost cutter

I understand the last known contact she had was with her mother and father via the phone on the evening of the 18th. She didnt turn up for work on the 19th so the sighting and reporting of this backpack be it Claudias or not was on the 19th it could be very important.

Why walk down the road for a prearranged pick up, and she may have been carried out of the back door if she was no longer alive, better a dark alley than in the street outside her front door

The cctv across the road cought cl returning home but this was not very clear image at all but the police think it had to be her time and place .Now a car /bus at the right moment would have concealed cl from this cctv[/QUOTE]
Did the police check the cctv footage from costcutter from the evening of the 18th -evening of the 19th and note all vehicle types and possible reg number plates of passing vehicles. i would be particularily interested in the footage of the 19th 4.45am-6.00am

Yes important. The NH people told of this MAN telling them ( or showing them ?)about the backpack !They told him (NH ) to contact police .
Apparently he did because the camera ( in the last tv programme) focused on a patch of grass where supposedly the backpack was seen .

We need to bear in mind that when the police show a clip for example the clip of the ‘dark’ person hesitating from stepping in the full glare of the lamppost all they would be asking is :is this you ?Do you know this person?
For all we know they could have yet another clip of the same person carrying someone on his shoulder further down the road!
Oh how I wish this was the case ?!

If there was a "drug crew", the participants would have known, how to avoid surveillance from where ever, IMO.

Exactly, through the back door into a dark alley then onto a pub car park where the cctv wasn't operative
