Serial killer Shipman cremated in secret Feb 25 2004 Serial killer Harold Shipman has been cremated at a service which was attended by his wife Primrose and just a handful of other mourners. Primrose, 54, was advised not to bury her husband in case the grave was attacked, according to The Sun newspaper. The 57-year-old, who hanged himself in Wakefield prison last month, is believed to have killed at least 215 people while working as a GP in Hyde, Greater Manchester. He was jailed for life as Britain's worst serial killer. It was not known whether Shipman's children Sarah, 36, Christopher, 32, David, 24, or Sam, 21, were at their father's funeral, which was held last Tuesday, according to The Sun. The Prison Service did not send a representative and a spokesman said it had no input into the funeral arrangements. "It's really not something the Prison Service would have any control over. "He died and we released his body to the coroner," he said. "This is a matter for the family."
