19 year-old Hazel North has not been seen since leaving her home in Dunfermline, Scotland on March 4. Her sister says she was going to visit a male friend in Kilmarnock. Hazel is 5'8", slim, with shoulder length blonde hair.

Police forensic teams are today digging up a garden in Northcraig Road, Kilmarnock, in connection with Hazel's case.

He put the clothes, pink top and black trousers, in the bin. They were 'mockit and soaking'. I don't know what that word means. Police have retrieved them though. It's a shame there is no clothing description given for Hazel.

The house seems to have been vacated in a hurry within the past two weeks......

ETA, No, it seems there are four apartments in the house and one has been empty for months, but in the last two weeks, someone appeared to be moving in. But now they seem to have moved out again.

Dirty, I should think - a scots variant of mucky, maybe?

I think you're right. He also said they 'chapped' on his door, which I've never heard either. I guessed that meant tapped or knocked.

I probably should have mentioned in my post that the neighbour is not under any suspicion at all, though he said police asked for a DNA sample because he had touched the clothes.

It's very odd- I believe these are council/public housing blocks of apartments. Looking at google streetview the blocks have communal, very open gardens. I think the apartment being searched is in one of the dark brick buildings set back from the road a little though, so maybe the gardens there are more private? The number of the house shown in media was 71, but police were standing by the house next door.

Otherwise, there seems to be a lot of rural areas just a street or two away. There is also a square of wasteland in front of Northcraig, with containers/dumpsters (on google) but again that area is very open and exposed, ringed by housing.

If it's council housing, I'd have thought police must know who was living there before they upped and left. They haven't put out a wanted alert for anyone though, so I am wondering if they are holding someone for questioning but just not saying?

Now I'm dumbfounded. Police have just released a photo of a completely different person as far as I'm concerned, but they say it's Hazel with dark hair.

And this report says nothing suspicious was found in Northcraig but they've just had a report that Hazel was seen a week ago in Stranraer!

Also.....either Hazel's missing status was ignored by media for 18 days, or she has only just been reported missing, I think?

I've spliced the two photographs of Hazel together for comparison.

The search has 'found nothing of concern' in the house that was searched. Meanwhile, police are investigating reports seen of two women on Coronation St in Stranraer, one of whom matches Hazel's description. The other is of medium build with a short, dark bob haircut.

That fits in with the neighbour seeing two young women standing in the garden of the house maybe?

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101. They need to know that Hazel is safe, even if she is voluntary missing.

you're right Ellmau

Mockit
Scottish, meaning: In a state of very poor cleanliness. See also Greenock.

It is very difficult for me to work out what might be happening with this young woman. At first it seemed very, very ominous but now I'd like to know more - has Hazel ever gone missing before? Does she stay in regular contact with her family, or live with them?

I don't know if police are treating her disappearance as possible foul play because she has been missing so long, or because it is so unlike her, or there are suspicions about someone she has met or knows.

I was thinking Greenock is a place and it's not very nice it's become a byeword for mucky, but I see it was a major hub of shipbuilding, so I guess it means industrial muck. It's probably sparkling clean now, but not much work....
