Two women abducted and raped in random London attacks
"Two women were abducted at random by a man in north London and raped in what police have described as a "terrifying ordeal".

The women were snatched separately on Thursday, the first shortly after midnight from a street in Chingford and the second around 12 hours later at 12.15pm from a street in Edgware.

The pair, both aged in their 20s, escaped the white male suspect after a struggle in Osborn Road in Watford at around 2.30pm on the same day, the Metropolitan Police said.

The man, who abducted the women in a car, is described as having a muscular build."

Appeal after two women abducted and raped
"Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin who leads the investigation said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for both women who were abducted by the suspect in separate areas. At this stage there is nothing to suggest either victims were specifically targeted for any reason, but both appear to have been selected at random.

“A number of active leads are being followed up urgently including reviewing CCTV footage and forensic analysis. We are also working closely with our colleagues in Hertfordshire to establish what links the suspect may have in that area."

Word on the street is that the girl abducted in Edgware was walking with her sister and the man tried to grab them both but one managed to escape. Local rumour is that they were targeted because they are Jewish (Edgware has a very high population of ultra-Orthodox Jews). I'm really surprised this has happened in Edgware as it's a relatively safe part of London!

"The suspect has been described as a white man of muscular build, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, with a bald head or shaved blond hair and a light-coloured short beard. He was also said to have tattoos.

The car he was driving is believed to be a silver or grey-coloured Ford S-Max people carrier, with false registration plates.

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin who leads the investigation said: “My team has been working extremely hard to identify the suspect behind these appalling crimes, and our reviews of CCTV and forensic evidence are ongoing.

“We are continuing to speak to both women to obtain a complete picture of what happened after they were abducted. At this stage we believe that the suspect travelled around north London and Hertfordshire in his car from the early hours of Thursday, 25 April and he may have come into contact with other members of the public.

“If you were in these areas on Thursday and were approached by a stranger in similar circumstances, or saw anything that roused your suspicion or made you feel uncomfortable, get in touch now.

“We have now released details of the car the suspect was driving. It may be that he is still driving around in this car, or he has parked somewhere. If an unfamiliar car like the one pictured is now parked on your street, call police straight away."

Pregnant victim escaped rapist by smashing vodka bottle over his head

One of the victims, who is pregnant, ran into a builders’ merchants in Watford at about 2.30pm on Thursday and begged staff: “I’ve been abducted… please help… he’s going to kill me.”
A police manhunt for the suspect intensified today as detectives urged locals to remain vigilant.

“The girl was bleeding from the hand she had really deep cuts. She was crying, she was petrified. She said that the kidnapper had taken her and another woman and had been driving around. She said ‘he made me do things. He is going to come back and kill me, he had my passport and everything.’”

“The woman who had cut her hand told me she was pregnant. We rang her boyfriend to tell him she was safe.”

Gordon Williams, construction design and management officer at Top Build, said: “A woman ran in crying with a cut on her hand. She was bleeding quite profusely and her words were ‘I’ve been kidnapped’.

“She was extremely distressed and said there was another girl. Myself and a colleague got some paper towels, put pressure on her wound and gave first aid to her cut. She said she was pregnant and told my colleague she’d been raped.”

Suspected rapist threatens to kill man
"The boss of construction company Green Contractors Ltd, who wished only to be named as Alex, said two members of his staff were crossing Osbourne Road, where they were working, when one of the women jumped out of the car.

He said the attacker "went after her really pulling her by the hair, when the girl started to scream 'Help, help, help'".

He said: "One of my workers went towards the victim and shouted 'Leave it, leave it' and punched the perpetrator.

'You're dead'

Other builders came to help their colleague, and one of the women hit her abductor over the head with a bottle.

He then fled, telling the rescuer: "My friend, you're dead."

A man wanted over the abduction and rape of two women in London has been linked to a third attack.

Joseph McCann is wanted by detectives investigating the abduction of two women in Chingford and Edgware on 25 April.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said he was also linked to the rape of a 21-year-old in Watford on 21 April.

Officers believe McCann, who is also wanted on recall to prison, could be using disguises.

A £20,000 reward has been offered by the Metropolitan Police for information about his whereabouts.
