There was a great summary of this case in the Times Online a few months ago.

Like the detectives in the The Daily Mail story Floh posted above, I've also wondered what it was that made him show up with "amnesia" after getting away with it all these years.

They've invented a whole new way to abuse your children. What an evil thing to do to your own sons. :furious:

Can anything she says be believed?

Canoe wife: 'My husband forced me to lie to my own sons - I wanted to tell them he was alive'

Anne Darwin told detectives in interviews after her arrest that she wanted to tell her family the truth when her husband returned home and urged him to come clean.
But Mr Darwin warned her that if she opened her mouth, he would say she was involved in the £250,000 life insurance scam from the very start, the jury heard.
Transcripts read out to Teesside Crown Court revealed how Mrs Darwin, 56, admitted to officers that lying to her own children was 'extremely painful'.

    ***

She is using the defence of marital coercion, claiming she was forced to go along with the scam by her husband.

This woman has more stories than Foxy Knoxy, and I doubt anyone is buying any of them.

Did you see this story in the Times?

Don’t leave me, Anne Darwin begged her ‘dead’ husband as he turned himself in

Anne Darwin e-mailed her supposedly dead husband saying “Don’t leave me” just hours before he walked into a Central London police station, a court heard yesterday.

In a message sent to John Jones, the false identity adopted by John Darwin after he faked his death, she wrote: “Hope you have a good flight and everything is ok with the family. . . Did you manage to write the last chapter for your book on the way there? Love you, missing you already xxx.”

Oh sure, he made her do it.

Anne believes she is the victim? Gosh, Anne our heart breaks for you. :boohoo: Neither of them seemed to give a thought to the pain of the real victims, their sons. Their indifference to their own children was so callous. That pair of narcissists deserve each other.

LONDON — A judge sentenced both a husband and wife to more than six years in jail Wednesday for faking the man's drowning death in a $500,000 insurance scam.

Anne Darwin, 56, was jailed for six and a half years after a jury found her guilty earlier Wednesday of six counts of fraud and nine counts of money laundering.

Her husband John Darwin, 57, received six years and three months — a slightly lesser sentence because he had pleaded guilty.

John Darwin's just appeared in court and been ordered to hand over £40,000 from two pension plans of his that have just matured.

So far, he has managed to repay only £121 of the £679,000 he was ordered to repay.

Anne Darwin, from whom he is now separated, has paid back £500,000 of what she owed. She still has £177,000 outstanding.

I just love the picture they published of his new car - with a dog peeing on it! :silly: Stay classy, Daily Mail.
