Detectives investigating the disappearance of a Dudley woman have charged two men with her murder.

Julia Rawson, 42, has been missing from her home since 12 May.

While officers have not found her body, enquiries have led detectives to believe that she has died and a murder investigation has been launched.

Nathan Maynard-Ellis, 28, was arrested in the Dudley area on Wednesday. He was initially held on suspicion of kidnap, and then on suspicion of murder.

Maynard-Ellis, of Mission Drive, Tipton, was yesterday charged with murder and will appear before Walsall Magistrates court today (Monday).

David Leesley, aged 23, was arrested on Friday in Dudley on suspicion of assisting an offender, and then later rearrested on suspicion of murder.

Leesley, of Dereton Close, Russell's Hall, has also been charged with murder and is appearing at the same hearing.

As part of the investigation, officers continue to search a property on Mission Drive, and a nearby canal.

Julia’s family have been kept informed of the latest developments.

Det Insp Jim Colclough, leading the investigation, said: “Extensive enquiries have led us to the strong belief that Julia has died.

“We are still working to establish the full circumstances around her disappearance, and our thoughts are with her family at what is a very traumatic time for them.”

Julia is described as 6ft tall with short tousled hair and was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt, grey zip-fronted hooded top, with dark grey jeans and a black and white shoulder bag.

The link above setting the trial date states that poor Julia was dismembered and her Brady parts were found in several different locations between June 12 and July 1st last year, grim, only link I have found so far that mentions this.

Two men have gone on trial over the murder of missing Dudley woman Julia Rawson.

Nathan Maynard-Ellis, 30, of Mission Drive, Tipton, and David Leesley, 25, of Dereton Close, Dudley, stand accused of killing the 42-year-old warehouse operative, who vanished on May 12 last year.

Her remains were found near an industrial estate in Tipton on June 12, 2019 - a month after she was last seen alive.

Both men deny murdering Ms Rawson, who lived in Green Park Road, Kates Hill.

Maynard-Ellis has also been charged with four counts of rape against another woman plus one count of attempted rape and threats to kill.

The case is being tried at Coventry Crown Court and is expected to last up to six weeks.

Two men on trial accused of murdering Julia Rawson - updates

Coventry Crown Court was told on Wednesday that 42-year-old Julia Rawson was killed and dismembered into 11 pieces after she was lured to a "flat of horrors" in Tipton in May 2019.

Prosecutors allege that Maynard-Ellis and his boyfriend, 25-year-old David Leesley, walked along a canal towpath near their flat to hide Ms Rawson's body parts in undergrowth.

[...]

[Another victim] told police last year that Maynard-Ellis had pointed out a specific location near the waterway to her, telling an interviewing officer: "He said he wanted to show me something.

"He suddenly went from being calm ... and said if he kills me that's where he will put my body."

The woman alleged she was then raped by Maynard-Ellis, after he made her remove some of her clothing.

Looks like this trial is still ongoing. From 2 days ago:

A former film and TV student accused of murdering and dismembering a stranger has denied wanting to "re-enact" horror movies found at his flat.

Nathan Maynard-Ellis, 30, and his boyfriend David Leesley, 25, deny murdering Julia Rawson at their "flat of horrors" in May 2019.

[...]

Mr Maynard-Ellis, who has been diagnosed with depression and Asperger's syndrome, told jurors he was bullied at school but had gone on to achieve a distinction on a special effects, film, television and theatre course.

Asked whether an interest in films and books found at his flat had made him want to "try to re-enact any of it in real life" or "take action" from a movie, he said: "No. I have looked at films to make costumes and masks and things but not to act them out."

The defendant revealed this account to a forensic psychiatrist called Dr Nicholas Kennedy who gave evidence at Coventry Crown Court.

Mr Karim Khalil QC, prosecuting, asked Mr Kennedy: "Did he say he heard voices saying 'stop her', 'do it now', the voice kept saying 'do it now'?"

Mr Kennedy replied: "Yes. He grabbed something, he thinks it was a rolling pin, and hit her with it."

The court was told that Miss Rawson fell backwards and hit her head. At this point, Maynard-Ellis took her to his bathroom where he alleges he tried to clean the blood off her.

Mr Kennedy continued: "He said he took her to the bathroom and tried to sit her upright. She was breathing strangely and he kept telling her it was going to be okay.

"Then she stopped breathing and after a while he realised she had died.

"He said his partner [Leesley] was asleep in the bedroom. He said a voice told him to get 'rid of her' and after a while he did so.

"He said he lifted her into the bath and cut into her with a saw. He found it quite hard. He said a voice told him to 'get on with it'."

Alleged Julia Rawson killer heard voices before murder, trial told

Jurors in the case retired this morning after the trial judge told them to take all the time they needed to consider the evidence.

Mr Justice Soole told the jury panel: "You have had the directions of law, it's now for you to decide the facts ... and then reach your verdicts.

"There is absolutely no pressure of time. Take all the time that you need to consider all the matters that are before you."

A man obsessed with horror films has been convicted along with his boyfriend of murdering and dismembering a woman in their flat.

Nathan Maynard-Ellis, 30, took Julia Rawson home after meeting her in a pub in Dudley, West Midlands, in May 2019.

He and David Leesley, 25, then killed her and hid her body parts in undergrowth, the trial at Coventry Crown Court was told.

Maynard-Ellis was also found guilty of rape charges relating to another woman.

The four rapes, an attempted rape, and threats to kill came to light when a woman came forward after his murder arrest.
