Wow what a development, GMP post
Police investigating suspected remains discovered on the Moors

GMP Force Review Officer Martin Bottomley said: “At around 11.25am on Thursday 29 September 2022, Greater Manchester Police was contacted by the representative of an author who has been researching the murder of Keith Bennett, a victim of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. Following direct contact with the author, we were informed that he had discovered what he believes are potential human remains in a remote location on the Moors and agreed to meet with officers yesterday afternoon to elaborate on his find and direct us to a site of interest.

“The site was assessed late last night and, this morning, specialist officers have begun initial exploration activity. We are in the very early stages of assessing the information which the author has brought to our attention but have made the decision to act on it in line with a normal response to a report of this kind.

“It is far too early to be certain whether human remains have been discovered and this is expected to take some time.

“We have always said that GMP would act on any significant information which may lead to the recovery of Keith and reunite him with his family. As such, we have informed his brother of the potential development - he does not wish to be contacted at this time and asks that his privacy is respected.”

I really do hope it's Keith and if so, that is incredible work from Russell Edwards. I remember the countless interviews Winnie Bennett did to keep the case alive and her pleading with Brady and Hindley to just let her know where he was so she could bury him alongside his family. It was just heartbreaking. RIP Keith and Winnie

I hope and pray Keith has been found I feared he never would be because finding him seemed impossible. It is remarkable that author Russell Edwards has been able to put together a team of experts and they have been able to identify a location where Keith may have been found. I have never forgotten the interview’s Keith’s Mum Winnie did before she died pleading in tears for the two monsters to reveal where they had buried her beloved Son. It is absolutely heartbreaking that his poor Mum was not only dying of cancer but also died with the unimaginable emotional pain of dying not knowing where Keith was buried. I really hope Keith can finally have a funeral and be buried with his Mum. My thoughts and prayers are with Keith’s Brother as he waits for confirmation that it is Keith who has been found.

Keith's brother Alan Bennett took to social media last night to say that 'all should be clear and final by some time tomorrow.'

However he expressed his scepticism, writing on Facebook: 'Apart from believing this is the location for Keith and all the previous graves have been shallow why, if the police were taken to the location, has nothing been discovered as of yet?

'I cannot escape the feeling that we have been here before.'

It comes after the Daily Mail exclusively revealed that detectives were preparing to exhume a particular area where suspected skeletal remains had been found including what experts believe to be a child's upper jaw with a full set of teeth.

Forensic anthropologists from Greater Manchester Police were examining potential samples of body tissue taken from the area in the hope of extracting DNA which could finally crack the infamous murder case.

If this is him, it would seem that they were buried to form a Swastika. I don't see that as being something you'd just forget. They'd both have taken the family and the Police on a wild goose chase and clearly never intended for him to be found.

Agony continues for Keith Bennett's family as police say NO remains of 12-year-old Moors Murders victim have yet been found but they continue to dig

I’m really sorry to post this Breaking News update. Like all of you I was so pleased when it was reported yesterday that Keith’s remains had possibly had finally been found. I am so disappointed to find out today that no human remains have been found at all. I hope and pray Keith‘s remains will be found one day.

It was a terrible mistake that the author who thought Keith had been found had a Daily Mail Online article last night basically confirming he had figured out where Keith was buried. He claimed he had figured monster Brady wanted to create a swastika from where the poor victims remains were buried and that Keith’s skull and teeth had been found. The story should not have been published prematurely before it was confirmed human remains were found. It was extremely misleading to make it appear in news articles yesterday that the book author had figured out where the two monsters had buried poor Keith and he had been found when it is not true.

I don’t understand how the book author quoted a Forensic Anthropologist in the same Online article confirming a human skull and teeth had allegedly been found. And that they possibly belonged to a boy Keith’s age had been found when law enforcement have said today that they have not been. Surely a professional Forensic Anthropologist would not make a mistake like that claiming a human skull and teeth had been found when no human remains have been found. I don’t understand why the author did this.

I am so sorry that Keith‘s Brother Alan was right to be sceptical. It is extremely cruel that the book author prematurely announced that he had figured out where Keith was buried, that a human skull and teeth belonging to someone Keith’s age had been found and gave a false impression in the press that it was likely Keith had been found when it is not true. It is not fair to do that to Keith’s Brother and loved ones.

The book author should never have spoken to the press until law enforcement had confirmed human remains which are Keith‘s has been found. I do not understand what the author’s motive for doing this is because it is appalling to make false and misleading claims that human remains most likely to belong to a murder victim have been found when they have not been. It is disgraceful that the book author does not appear to have had any consideration for Keith’s Brother and his loved ones and the terrible emotional distress he had caused. He absolutely should not have allegedly making false and misleading claims to the press that he has figured out where Keith was buried and that human remains most likely to be Keith‘s have allegedly been found, when law enforcement have now confirmed no human remains have been found at all.

It is paramount that authors investigating murders and trying to help find victims remains consider the emotions of the victim’s loved ones at all times. They should not be speaking to the press making false and misleading claims that victims have allegedly been found before it has been officially confirmed by law enforcement. I hope the book author has not allegedly done this to generate publicity for himself and to sell his books.

I read the articles earlier and felt there had to be something in this, even though it was the Mail (which I usuall regard with caution). It was very specific about the skull and molar teeth indicating an age of 11-12 years. Very disappointing for the family if it's not Keith.

As for talking to the press, I guess they would have been all over this anyway as soon as the police presence with the tents was spotted.

Am I right in thinking there has been no official statement indicating the finding of human remains? Is it all hear say at this point? Digging for 3 days surely means something though?

On rereading the daily Mail article something doesn't seem right to me . So after suspecting "evidence of a human body" it then says "In September, Mr Edwards returned with Miss Dunlop to dig up the area." . I might be wrong but at that point shouldn't it be official police teams involved and not private individuals doing the digging? I know private teams were involved in the location of Donald Campbell in Lake Coniston and Emiliano Sala in the English Channel but surely that's not the same as exhuming potential human remains of a murder victim on land? It's not like it was an archaeological dig.

The more I research this author the more I don't like him. His Twitter post about Keith was completely unnecessary, though he did eventually delete the smiling emojis once it was pointed out how tasteless they are.

I tend to agree with you, sadly. In this interview he claims to have also have identified Jack The Ripper "through DNA". That's clearly not true. Don't get me wrong, if by some miracle he has somehow pinpointed Keith's remains then we would all say well done. However something feels a bit off with the social media posts and this interview. If as he says, he wants to protect Keith's family and not give them false hope, why is he on TV for publicity. Seems off to me.
