I’m refusing to form any opinion until I see a charge

Probably a very sensible plan!!

I'm surprised he's been named though. After doodah whatshisname (Joanna Yeates) the media have tended to be more careful naming people before they've been properly charged, and it certainly wouldn't be the first time we had an arrest then released with no further charges.... we shall see

That was on the same night. Some girl was chased Down the road by a man in a balaclava. A taxi pulled up at the end of the road to help but was apparently a fake taxi (normal car with fake taxi stickers on side) but she managed to escape.

It was just near where libby went missing and was apparently reported to the police. People have been talking about this on Facebook.

It was a few days before Libby vanished, in the early hours of the morning, according to The Sun. So it’s happened twice?

If this chap turns out to be guilty it might be worth asking him about Claudia Lawrence too since he was living in York previously.

I think he would have been around the age of 14 when Claudia disappeared?

If he works at Malton as FB says, he probably works in one of the bacon factories there, as opposed to being a butcher in a small shop. Not sure what, if any difference that makes, but it does mean that he wouldn’t have any equipment etc at his home or near it, I don’t think.

The DM are being very circumspect on the name, I wonder why when they were happy to ignore the naming ban in the Grace Millane case and other papers are printing the name and facebook photos

This is not news that comes as too much of a surprise this morning and sadly, from years of Websleuth experience .... it would be a miracle if Libby is found alive :(

My heart is breaking for her loved ones!

I know that, but there have been a few occasions where the victim has been found alive

So, do we think a chance encounter with an incapable young girl got out of hand and somehow lead to her death? I don't see any premeditation but I wonder what a man with very young children was doing out and about after midnight on a week night, a butcher is an early morning job rather than a late night one isn't it?

He could have had the day of work the following day maybe took a few days holiday I think the vulnerable state she was in and with the neighbours hearing a worrying scream can not help think at some point did she try and escape from this man in panic

In that case maybe he was on his way home from work, I'd guess a factory like that might work 24 hours

Libby Squire: One week on
Hull
7 Feb 2019

Detective Superintendent Matt Hutchinson has released a statement this morning about the investigation into the disappearance of Libby Squire in Hull.

Det Supt Hutchinson said: “It has been one week since the last positive sighting of Libby in Hull and I want to clarify a number of points.

“During this week we have undertaken a large scale search for Libby with assistance from members of the public, students, university staff, as well as our partners in other emergency services.

“We have received hundreds of calls and have been following up numerous lines of enquiry.

“We are still treating Libby’s disappearance as a missing person’s enquiry. I have said previously that we are keeping an open mind as to her whereabouts and that is still very much the case.

“Our number one priority is to find Libby Squire and we are still conducting extensive searches and appealing for any information from the public.

Claudia Lawrence was abducted in 2009. He would have been about 15 at the time and presumably still in Poland.

“Last night a 24-year-old man from Hull was arrested on suspicion of abduction at an address on Raglan Street. He is still in custody.

“I can also confirm that we have recovered a car on Raglan Street which is currently forming just one part of our investigation.

“During the course of our investigations we have spoken to a taxi driver and another motorist who stopped to help Libby on the night. I want to make it clear that these two individuals are not suspects in this enquiry.

“My officers have been and will continue to work around the clock in our search for Libby.

“Tonight Thursday 7 February there will PCSOs and officers in the area of Beverley Road and the University who will be handing out leaflets and speaking with as many people as we can to gather as much information as possible about Libby.

“They will be in the area from about 5pm going into tomorrow morning.

“We also have a special ‘media van’ with a large screen which is being driven around the area around the same time with information displayed which will help reinforce our appeal to find her.

“I have specialist officers who have been supporting Libby’s parents throughout, and I want to say a personal thank you to Lisa and Russ Squire and Libby’s extended family and friends for their strength and bravery during this difficult time.

“I am also aware that this has been a worrying time for residents living in the area and the wider university community. I would like to thank them for their help and patience, and want to offer my reassurance that my officers will continue to be in the area over the coming days.

“Please come forward with any information you may have no matter how insignificant you think it might be.

“Call us on 101 or if you want to remain anonymous, then you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

I agree. Not every arrest leads to charges, and the papers don't always name the right person when there is an arrest.

Having said that, I think there's a high probability there will be charges brought and that there will be other charges added on.
