The UK has guidelines about the speeds at which trials should be held. 6months is around the average time between charge and trial.

If the minor in this case was not directly involved in the murder but was forced to help cover up will that reduce his sentence? Or do all face a murder charge?

Initially, all three defendants were charged with perverting the course of justice, and the step-dad was also charged with murder. After further investigation, mom and the unnamed minor were also charged with murder. I think it was established there was probable cause to charge the minor with murder.

At a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, Williamson also denied another charge of causing or allowing the death of a child.

She has previously pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice, an offence which allegedly includes moving Logan's body to an area of the river near Pandy Park, removing his clothing, washing blood-stained bed linen, and making a false missing person report to police.

John Cole, 39, of Sarn, also appeared in court and denied causing or allowing the death of a child.

Cole has already pleaded not guilty to murder and guilty to perverting the course of justice.

A 14-year-old boy, who cannot legally be identified because of his age, has previously denied murder and perverting the course of justice.

The teenager appeared at court via video link.

The trial is due to begin on February 14 2022 and is expected to last for six weeks.

It's still unclear why Williamson delayed entering her murder plea??

The jury will be chosen and sworn in over the first two days of the trial, which is expected to last around six weeks, at Cardiff Crown Court.

In the second week of trial, the jury is to be taken on a site visit to the locations where Logan and items of his clothing were found.

Trial of trio accused of murdering five-year-old Logan Mwangi to start

Addressing the jury, Mrs Justice Jefford DBE said:

"The death of a child may give rise to strong feelings on your part but it's important you put your emotions to one side and judge the evidence fairly without being swayed by emotional reactions.

Junior prosecutor Claire Pickthall told the jury panel all three defendants had been charged with murder, which took place between July 28 and August 1, 2021.

The court heard Cole is originally from Coventry and Williamson is originally from Essex, but they both moved to Sarn in 2017.

Cole and Williamson also both deny causing or allowing the death of a child, but Cole has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice - namely, moving Logan's body from Lower Llansantffraid to the river area near Pandy Park, removing clothing belonging to Logan to the river area, washing blood stained bed linen belonging to Logan and making false reports to police Logan was missing.

The trial is estimated to last around six weeks. The jury was sent away until Monday, February 21, when the opening will take place.
