Police are very concerned for the welfare of 88 year old Maureen Gilgan from Portrush.

Our officers and Community Search and Rescue are currently out searching for Maureen in the Portrush area.

It is believed she was last seen at 1900h last night, Wednesday January 25th.

If you have seen Maureen or have any information that would assist us in finding her, please contact us on 101 quoting incident 507 of 26th January.

Update:

We believe that Maureen may be wearing this jacket, but not the hat.

Maureen has been presenting as confused in the last couple of weeks.

We would ask local people in the Hopefield, Parker Avenue, Glenvale, Girona and wider surrounding areas to please check their gardens and outbuildings.

A woman in her 80s has been missing from Portrush since Wednesday evening, police have confirmed.

The PSNI is appealing for help in finding 88-year-old Maureen Gilgan.

Her family say she was last seen at around 7.15pm in the Hopefield Crescent area.

Police said that she was wearing a cobalt blue coloured coat, red corduroy trousers, black laced up shoes, and black metal framed glasses when she was last sighted.

She also may have been carrying a red purse in her pocket.

Officers have appealed to those living in the Hopefield Avenue, Hopefield Crescent, Glenvale Avenue and Coleraine Road areas of the town to check their gardens, sheds, and outbuildings and to contact 101 with any information.

Community Rescue Service Specialist Search and Rescue Teams carried out extensive search operations around Portrush whilst searching for missing 88-year-old Maureen Gilgan who had been missing since late on Wednesday night.

Shortly before midnight on Thursday the Community Rescue Service found and recovered a body believed to be that of the missing person.

In a statement to Causeway Coast Community, a spokesperson from the Community Rescue Service said “Our search teams were tasked by police to this high-risk missing person at 10 am yesterday morning and just before midnight a body was located which was later confirmed to be that of the missing person.

“Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time.”
