I don't know, I tried looking for the specific laws, but it's all Greek to me. One thing I did stumble across, though, is there is a current petition to UK parliament (official site) collecting signatures to work towards changing the law to make them attend. It's got 32K signatures, so far. So if you're a UK citizen interested in this change happening, you might want to look it up and read about it.I know this. I'd like to know why, specifically, this is the case, though.
The jury are under a legal compulsion to be there during the trial so why not a convicted defendant?
What prevents a court from issuing a warrant/order that the defendant attends?
