Found Safe UK - Owami Davies, 24, from Chafford Hundred, Essex, last seen in Croydon, Surrey, 6 Jul 2022

Hey guys!

New to this community, but like all of you, I'm concerned about Owami's whereabouts, especially as I live in/around Croydon, so it feels like quite a personal case to me.

I've had a search for where the aforementioned sightings have been of Owami to track her movements, and placed them on a map for easy viewing (see below). The only information I can't seem to find is where the original video of her in line for the store is taken? I've heard a mixed reaction of 4th July and 7th July. Can anyone confirm?

There's no mention of how Owami travelled to Croydon, but being local I know that West Croydon Station (closest to where she was last seen) isn't too accessible. It does reach central London, but is super slow so not usually the prefered station. There is NO underground station here, it's just an overground line. There are lots of tram and bus services however.

Last point, her direction of travel on 7th July does lead towards the hospital. Not sure if she was familiar of this, but given her background, I would assume she may do. Is it possible she was looking for help?

I really hope she is found alive, she looked to be in pain in the most recent video, but she must've stayed somewhere for the night to make an outfit change (new jacket & top), so hopefully she's not been held anywhere. I hope the police can find her asap!

Hi @abc_sleuth and welcome to WS. :)

Can I ask what you know about the 7am witness sighting at the western end of Clarendon Road? I gave up trying to find out anything about it because the info just didn't seem to be out there, but if you have a source it would be interesting to know more about who saw her and the circumstances.

Far from wandering aimlessly around the neighbourhood, it seems to me that the Derby and Clarendon Road area of West Croydon was her specific focus, at least originally. And even if something happened that changed that focus, then figuring out what - or who - was there for her might help to shed light on what is driving this missing episode.

I wonder if she had mental health struggles. I wish we could get a better handle on Owami.

Where are all her friends, coworkers? Are they searching? Is there a FB page dedicated to finding her?

It’s so very quiet from everyone involved.

I am getting the feeling either the police haven't got a single clue about this case, or there is a lot more they know about her and her activities that they aren't revealing.

From the night - the image of her, not saying where from, or if indeed from one of their own bodycams where they saw her and spoke to her.

Why they had reason to arrest five people and how they suspected she had been un contact with them.

And why they keep saying she is/was vulnerable. It might help to say she was such because... she had mental health issues, she had a physical disability, she was intoxicated, she had taken substances etc etc.

Saying they believe she was sighted further with no backup info is pointless. Either they place credence on these or they don't. If the former they need to reveal time and place.
I suspect they were just trying to keep the story in the news today which is difficult when there is no new information to give.

Thanks @JuicyLucy!

I've not found too much information on the Clarendon Road witness sighting, other than a few news reports that state 'an unconfirmed sighting at 7am' (see: New plea for missing student nurse after last confirmed sighting in Croydon). I think it is safe to assume this is probably correct, as we now know she was alive before at least 12.30am on July 7th, and that she was seen on camera at least twice in this area in the early hours of the morning!

I think you're right about her being there on purpose, there really isn't much that way. Other than a car garage, barbers, dentist, a church and a couple of market-like shops.

Police have said they may have found a missing student nurse who went missing more than a month ago.

“I want to remind everyone that even though detectives from Specialist Crime are looking into it, this is still a missing person investigation.”

“Owami is obviously very important to us, and it’s possible that she’s in the neighborhood and in need of assistance.

“We have reports of someone matching Owami’s description being seen in the Croydon area in the days after she was last seen on CCTV,” the statement read. “We sincerely hope to find her safe and sound.”

Is this just bad journalism or is something about to be announced?!

I’m assuming they’re still saying she could be alive because there’s no evidence she’s not? Like Maddie McCann all of these years.
I really hope this story has a ‘happy’ ending. Obviously very traumatic but we can hope for the best.

"May have been found" is a step up from "may still be alive" though...

University end of year results tend to be released in July. I'm wondering if she had received her results prior to her disappearance or if she was particularly worried about receiving them. Really hoping there is some good news soon. The photos of her looking so distressed are heartbreaking.

Ref white van and brake lights being on: maybe female driver? Based purely on the difference between me and my husband and how we pause (so hardly statistically significant, and also I can’t think of any females I know who would drive a van at that time of night). The only other situation I can think of people waiting with foot on the brake is if they had taken a phone call without having handsfree kit. I don’t know how likely that would be in London, much more likely in my part of the UK where there is perceived less chance of a passing police person.

That the police have had another press release shows that they are struggling for leads. They will however, know everything about OD from family, friends and colleagues.

They are trawling through thousands of hours of CCTV. If a member of the public could provide a later sighting then it gives the police a more precise locale to check on the CCTV and hence saves considerable time looking elsewhere.

In terms of information, police only release detail when it is absolutely necessary for the public to know.

OD has a right to her personal data being protected, as any of us would expect, unless releasing it could help find her.

The police will not reveal reasons for arrests as this is operationally sensitive and could undermine any future prosecution.

she has not been since amid growing concern over her welfare, while the National Crime Agency (NCA) has now joined the missing persons case and is trawling through six reported sightings of her.

A statement said last night: 'Specialists from the NCA's Major Crime Investigative Support command are assisting this investigation led by the Metropolitan Police.

'Please contact them if you have information that can help trace Owami Davies.'

The Met has also revealed that she was possibly spotted in Croydon 'in the days after she was last seen' and say she could still be 'in the local area and in need of help'.

CCTV footage released by police from July 7 showed Owami wearing a dark jacket, red t-shirt, light grey joggers and slider type shoes. She also had a white handbag over her shoulder.

Officers have downloaded around 50,000 hours of CCTV and have viewed 10,000 hours of footage as part of efforts to verify the sightings.

There are so many possible hypotheses, the obvious ones and the not so obvious ones. However, when someone disappears they all come into play.

That we know she was caught on CCTV in Croydon, in an obviously vulnerable state, makes it more likely that she is at more risk to herself than from others who would wish her harm.

It may be that she has sought and found shelter and has food and water available, and possibly people who are with her but who will not give her up, however misguided that may seem.

Do you think that the NCA's involvement is because the police have hit a dead end and NCA have more tools to search the CCTV etc?

I hope Owami's case is kept in the news and that she is found soon, safe and well. The photo of her looking distressed is haunting.
